Classic Toast Skagen
Looking for ideas to your New Years Eve dinner? Shrimps on toast (Toast Skagen) is a classic, simple Swedish starter and wonderful way to start of New Years. I think a Toast Skagen should be basic and not to advanced, but in my version I add horseradish for extra flavor.
You might think that Toast Skagen comes from Denmark, from the fishing port Skagen but actually it is a Swedish dish that was…

Precourse Meeting
Yesterday I finally had my pre-course meeting and I've come away feeling so excited! I've made friends with a lovely girl that was at my interview over the last few weeks, so we went together and it was so nice to have someone there to experience it with me. I was a bit daunted at first while they were talking about how much work, time and dedication this will take over the next three years, but I know I can do it. We got a lot more information and had time to ask plenty of questions on all the different parts of the course. We also got our DBS (used to CRB) check sorted out, original documents handed over and sorted out, and our placement sites chosen for them to allocate to us. We met some of the tutors and people involved in the different areas of the course, who each gave us vital information about their respective areas. I came away with homework already! We were given two booklets to learn and work on in time for our first exam which I'm about to get stuck in to. It's kind of nerve wracking knowing I haven't even started yet and I need to start revising but I'm quite pleased that we came away with a purpose and something to do in the lead up. We were also given a book list of essential and recommended reading, so I'll look into getting a few more books! All in all I came away feeling much more excited than nervous and I just can't wait to get going now! It's come around so quick and I can't believe it's only 3weeks away now! It's going to break my heart being separated from my daughter for so long for the first time ever but I think we'll adjust over time. She's already starting to enjoy nursery, and I'm pleased that I've started her off in small chunks with it before I start so we can both adjust gradually. The countdown has properly begun now!
