I feel attacked 🤣
PreFlight by Touched by Light
I just started packing although I still have four days here in Germany. I just couldn’t wait and risk an unpleasant surprise regarding the size of my suitcase when it is already too late. So far it seems like it could even fit. Wow! It will be a tight fit though. There are so many things that I can’t just leave for a year but that are not totally necessary. I don’t think I have my priorities straight in this case. Let’s hope, I will be lucky.
This makes the whole thing a lot more real, though. Just this morning I said goodbye to my parents because they are going on holiday. I won’t see them irl for at least a few months! The closer the date of my departure comes the more surreal this whole thing seems. It still hasn’t sunken in completely that this is really happening. It always seemed like such a distant dream and so impossible. But this is getting real now!!
It is only one week until I will leave for the UK now and I still have loads of stuff to do:
- buy hospitality gifts - exchange euros to pounds - pack all my stuff - look at my exams - check in online for my flight - say goodbye to everyone I see until then - cry a little - cry a bit more - but not necessarily in a bad way - double and triple check that I didn’t forget anything and remember things like not takig a key with me - try not to be late for my flight
To Do
So I am already procrastinating. There are a lot of things I have to do before I leave the country so I’m making a little work in progress to do list. I will add things as I remember what else I have to do...
To do:
- look up language courses
- Gastgeschenke!
- get insurance (after arrival)
- open a bank account (after arrival)
- improve cooking skills (read “5 a day” website and tips & tricks)
- improve household skills
Already done:
- book a flight
- look up sim cards
- look at google earth and pictures for way too long
- join facebook groups
- look up public transport (read: procrastinate without having to feel guilty)
- look up churches near you (really why did I do this before I got insurance?)
- look up packing lists online
- read the au pair guide 8492 times
- look up my banks international withdrawal fees
- read the “positive parenting” guide
- click all the links and read all the things that could be important
