Verdict so far on COR
Choice of Rebels is a COG game that I’ve been meaning to play for months. I started it yesterday on a semi-whim. Ended up playing until about 2AM because I just had to finish a chapter.
It has a quality premise and extensive worldbuilding, and comes with a built-in codex that provides ample additional information on select lore subjects. The game has a straightforward gender choice for the protagonist (male/female) and a somewhat less straightforward choice w/r/t sexual orientation. You can select the gender of the first potential love interest who appears, but you can also choose to be asexual. For my first character, I played an ace lesbian serf with a knack for book-learning and hopeless lack of fighting skills.
The introduction is very good. It draws you into the story effortlessly, despite the wealth of names, details and terminology. The quality of the writing is also very good. It lays out the disturbing premise of the plot and sets up some of the several opposing factions and underlying issues. At the same time, it lets you get a feel for the character you’re playing, and set your own agenda as rebel leader.
The first chapter covers the first winter of the rebellion. It takes place immediately after the prologue and takes the form of a resource management game, which is a bit unusual for a ChoiceScript game (or at least, I haven’t seen much like it in the games I’ve played, but they have dozens and I’ve only played a few). This is the part that kept me up at night. It’s very difficult and indeed dispiriting, which may be by design, but failing the challenge does not automatically end the game. I was almost ready to give up and start from scratch, but I persevered (in case there was some kind of early death achievement) and made it to the second chapter. Here, again, the style of gameplay challenges changes.
Chapter two digs a bit deeper into some of the challenges that are foreshadowed earlier on, but which aren’t easily exploited in the first chapter. Some value calls that seemed intuitive in chapter one are called into question. You have the opportunity to trust or suspect people, to build them up or undermine them. It also continues the fine balancing act of being an outlaw, without alienating all of your potential allies. Stealing from the wealthy and powerful is lucrative but dangerous. Robbing the poor undermines your mission as the champion of the underdog.
It’s a crunchy game and there’s a lot to sink your teeth into. I believe the total script is something like 600K words, although I’m not sure of the length of a typical playthrough. Right now I’m starting chapter three and I expect fallout from my failed attempts to keep everyone happy.

I was kindly offered this ARC by the people at St. Martins’s Press and despite the fact that I haven’t read any Valerie Bowman before I said yes, after reading the synopsis, of course. I’m not very far into the book but I’m liking it and here’s why;

Prince of Stride
First anime of winter season 2016. I'll be watching this, despite not been my favourite kind of setting or plot. I'm not saying I don't enjoy sports anime, don't make wrong assumptions, I love Baby Steps, I like a lot Haikyuu! and Kuroko no Basuke. However, the main reason I'll be watching this is because of Madhouse Studios. After watching Overlord, which I didn't particularly enjoy, I'm craving for a better experience from this studio that has so much potential.

The director of this film is Paul McGuigan who is known for his work in : Lucky Number Slevin, Push, Wicked Part, and Gangster #1.
The main cast we see inside this are Daniel Radcliffe as Igor, James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein, Jessica Brown Findlay as Lorelei, Bronson Webb as Rafferty and Andrew Scott as Inspector Turpin.

The main plot of this amazing film is pretty much the darker story of Victor Frankenstein and how he created his monster. This film version is a bit different from other version of the film, because it’s actually all told from Igor’s perspectives.
Some cool facts that you all may not have know inside this film. Fun fact #1: Daniel actually had to get hair extensions for this role since he did not want to wear a wig and he didn’t have enough time to let his hair grow out. Unfortunately, that meant for Daniel that he had to have his hair like this the entire time for filming (around 5 months).
Fun Fact #2: Kenneth Branagh , Helen Bonham Carter and Robert Hardy were all in the last major Frankenstein movie, consequently, they also all appeared in the Harry Potter series as well.
Fun Fact #3: One of the characters names in this version of Frankenstein is Dr. Clive. In one of the original Frankenstein (1931) the Colin Clive actually played Victor Frankenstein. Cool and a bit freaky huh?
I’m super excited about this movie coming out because it looks really good! The whole special effects, action and monster! Another big plus is hat Daniel Radcliffe is in it and I just adore everything he is in. <3 My heart will forever belong to him.

How to Save Someone by battlescar8 SUMMARY- Tsuki’s (my oc) brother has died and he wasnt there to save him. Shizuo’s been hanging out with Tsuki after that. Tsuki has feeling for Shizuo and thinks of him as a big brother but Izaya is Tsuki’s actual brother but Shizuo hasnt figured that out for himself yet. But Izaya and Tsuki did lose a younger brother. But they pretend that Izaya and Tsuki arent brothers

Chapter 1
Tsuki’s POV
I was to late… How do I save a life that has already died? Ikebukuro is well known for color gangs, the dollars, suicide and killing… My brother committed suicide and I was to late to stop him. He jumped off the building that I’m siting on right now. Shizuo and Celty were there with me but they couldn’t save my brother either.
Uh, how do they even know you or your brother?
I don’t think Ikebukuro is popular for suicide, I’ve been there. And it was full of people. Most people who commit suicide wouldn’t choose a populated place out of respect (I’d imagine in Japan at least)
“whats with the sad look Tsuki?’
Izaya was standing on the edge of the building I was on.

"It going terrible… Its all my fault that I couldn’t save my brother’
Ugh, cliche much? ‘I couldn’t save my brother! It’s all my fault! I did this to him!’.
Angst.
"Its not your fault. Never say something is your fault. If you say that again I’ll throw a vending machine at you’
Just do it anyways! Quick! End it now!
Shizuo only throws shit at people who piss him off and Izaya, even if I’d love to see Tsuki crushed by a vending machine, it probably wouldn’t happen anyways.

Shizuo looked around.

Shizuo picked up the vending machine that was on the roof of the building from when he threw it towards Izaya and pointed it towards me.
"Eek! Okay! Okay! I’ll stop!’
How is that supposed to change her mind? If Shizou threw the vending machine, she would fall anyways. And how did she go from being "No one understands me, might as well just kill myself’, to ‘EEK! AAH, NO! DON’T PUSH MEEEE!’.
Shizuo wouldn’t threaten someone who was just talking about committing suicide with a fucking vending machine.

Shizuo set the vending machine down and took my hand. Me and him walked down the stairs and walked out onto the sidewalk. I looked at our hands touching and I blushed. I had a slight crush on Shizuo. I have a crush on Izaya as well even though Izaya is my brother… but if Shizuo found that out he’d be pissed at me and me and him would be enemies…
I want to rip my eyeballs out.

I blushed. Having Shizuo here makes everything better… I mean… My brother may be gone but with Shizuo… He feels like my big brother…

Tsuki’s POV
A few minutes have passed and I was back home. Shizuo was out and about searching for Izaya. Little did I know Izyaya was in my room. I walked into my room and squealed like a girl.
You are a girl. But please, do go on. I didn’t need my hearing anyways.
Shizuo has never looked for Izaya except for like once. Most of the time, Shizuo is too fucking busy to hunt for the asshole.
"EEK! IZAYA! WHY ARE YOU H-
I could ask the same question.
Izyaya covered my mouth.
"Keep it down. I’m hiding from Shizuo’
In her bedroom?
Cause Bedrooms are the perfect fucking place to hide from the man that just kissed the owner of the room.
Celty then came out from the closet. I looked over at her and she looked back at me.
What the even … ?
Celty wouldn’t do that.
"Hi Tsuki’
She typed that into her phone. Izaya let go over my mouth.
"Hey Celty’
"Is everything going okay?’

I tried not to cry when I had a glimpse of my brothers death on my mind.
These chapters drag on, and they are not interesting, just full of bullshit. I kid you not, I could probably read the ending paragraph and still understand what was going on.
She just kissed Shizuo, or did that leave her mind. Cause I know if I ever kissed my crush, I’d be over the fucking moon. But nope, this OC needs to squeeze every ounce of angst they can.
"It will be okay. Me Shizuo and Izyaya are here to help you through with this’
I’m pretty sure Izaya wouldn’t be the kind and understanding big brother figure.
Izaya only cares about knowing about humans cause they’re interesting to him. That’s it. He would give zero fucks. He almost talked some girl into jumping off a building in the anime, but she got pissed at him and chose not to. (From what I remember, it’s been a while)
I nodded and went over to Celty and hugged her. She hugged me back. I then let out my tears. I cried and cried and cried. I couldn’t let my feelings stay in me much longer. The last time I cried was when I was 3 then I stopped. But now, now I’m crying to the point where I feel like I’m going to be sick. Celty rubbed my back. Izaya looked around the room. I finally stopped crying and stopped hugging Celty.

I just wish… That my brother wasn’t the one to commit suicide. With that being said I decided to go outside. It was a beautiful night tonight. Its always this beautiful in Ikebukuro at night. I was out here to try and find Shizuo. Shizuo ment the world to me. If he were to die… I’d kill myself just like I was tpemted to do so when my brother killed himself. Me and Shizuo met each other when we were 4 I’m the same age as him so I’m 23. I’ve been in Ikebukuro for as long as Shizuo has been in Ikebukuro. I’m glad that we became the best of friends and well maybe soon to be lovers. I can’t believe he kissed me back. I felt flattered. But… It felt awkward since we’re friends and not lovers.
I just fucking can’t anymore. This last bit made me cringe. Blech.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhh. She’s just following him around. Having an OC that literally FOLLOWS the love interest EVERYWHERE is super over used and honestly pretty dumb.
