Anyone else tired of pre-orders?
Most of my niche hobbies are held at gunpoint by pre-orders from figures to video games. Nothing is just "available" anymore.
I know it isn't a new concept but it's not even an option anymore for most things. It's either you pre-order it, or you buy it from eBay a year later for double the price.
A few years back, I ordered a collector's edition of Double Dragon IV for Switch that came with the game and a few goodies. I ordered it in August of that year, paid 80 bucks for it and had to wait OVER A YEAR to get it. What happens if I die in that time frame? I guess I just don't flippin' get it huh?
I miss retail stores, I miss things just being there to buy. Yeah they exist but they're a dying concept unless you're Wal-Mart.
Most recent example. Limited Run put out this awesome Goro controller holder for their Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection.
Look at this thing! That is one cool collectible. I would go to a store RIGHT NOW and buy that buuuuuut it's a pre-order item. I'm not paying 150 dollars to wait on something for a year. No matter how cool it is.
I have a short time on this Earth, It's not about instant gratification, it's simply a matter of utilizing my time. I don't have a year to wait on Goro, I could be kidnapped by polar bears and taken hostage to never be seen again (absurd scenario used to stand as an alternative to a real one which could be offensive or dark, so I'm not being random just to be random). So a suggestion to corporate America; help me acquire my goods in a timely manner that doesn't involve YEARS.
One last note: I pre-ordered an item FOUR YEARS AGO. from an indie company with a decent reputation. I haven't got it to this day. I reached out to the owner, he cited financial troubles related to family illness. I'm an understanding guy but there isn't an excuse for this. As a company, you're gambling with my money at this point and I'm the one assuming the risk.
I said one last note but this is one last note: Ask the people who pre-ordered the Intellivision Amico console if they would do it again. It's been 5 years and those poor people are MAKING THEIR OWN consoles with smartphone apps because the company has failed them so spectacularly and still tells them a physical console is "on it's way".
No more pre-orders, please?
