My daily visits from the UPS and FedEx man are often the highlights of my day, because as Forrest Gump said, “You never know what you’re gonna get.” Sometimes I squeal with joy upon opening a package, sometimes I say, “Eh,” and sometimes I’m unsure what to make of a product. When I got Monat’s Rejuveniqe Oil Intensive to review, I assumed that it was just another hair oil to use post-shower/pre-styling.
I realized I was wrong when I read the directions, as this oh-so-common use was not even one of the three listed. The first suggested use was as a pre-shampoo treatment, and as much as I’ve embraced oils in my skin and hair routines, I’ll admit I’ve always been reluctant to try this one.
For the sake of journalism I decided to go outside my personal beauty box (so to speak), and I promptly applied a “generous” amount to my dry hair and left it on for 15 minutes. Then I hopped in the shower, shampooed and conditioned as usual and embarked on my usual styling routine. All I can say is that I was beyond shocked at how soft, smooth and shiny my hair came out. It was kind of ridiculous. I got all the benefits of a post-shampoo deep conditioning treatment with none of the greasy residue or weighed-down feel.
The instructions also include “Intensive Hydrating Treatment,” but I have to say that applying to damp hair from scalp to ends and wrapping with a warm, moist towel for 30 minutes is a bit outside of my convenience zone. But with that said, as soon as I get 30 minutes to myself, I will definitely try it.
Lastly, this oil can also be used to smooth rough, frazzled ends after styling, but this wasn’t even necessary when I used it as a pre-shampoo treatment. This stuff is that good.
Just so you know, you can use this citrus-scented oil on your skin as well. From face to body, it’s main ingredient, Abyssinian oil, provides your hair and skin with fatty acids, amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and so much good stuff that it deserves a place on your vanity or in your medicine cabinet. In fact, its composition actually mimics the oils produced by our bodies naturally. And the silver packaging is oh-so luxe, so you won’t even feel the need to tuck it away. Oh, and it’s organic, so there’s absolutely no guilt involved. I’m giving this product a 10, not only because it can be used in so many ways, but because I saw the results for myself.
As I've mention before, I wouldn't say I'm very beauty savvy... but I'm learning because I wanna start to take care of my self better. That's why I've been watching a lot of YouTube channels about it ;)
My most recent discovery (and unfortunately I can't remember where I found the tip) is this Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment with Nettles and Rosemary.
When I first heart about it I was very confused by the term "pre-shampoo" I didn't know what even existed. But, as it turns out, your hair can appreciate it.
As the Burt's Bees website explains:
Rich and buttery. This pre-wash hair treatment uses Avocado Oil to deliver essential moisture while Olive and Almond Oil, Rosemary and Nettle Extracts help give your hair a beautifully glossy shine and it's SLS-free.
Amazon says: Pre-treat before for a high gloss after. Perming, coloring and styling can leave your hair looking dry and damaged. This luscious formula combines Avocado and Olive oils to penetrate and replenish natural moisture to your hair and scalp.
And I say, it is truly amazing. I wet my hair first and then apply it all over. I leave it on for around 30 minutes, sometimes even more if I'm doing something else, and then I shower and wash normally.
I can definitely feel a very noticeable difference every time I use it and I recommend it 100%
I have heard such great things about the Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo hair treatment that the first thing I am surprised of is that it seems to be on the discontinued side, at least on the european side of the pond, which is really a shame.
The raving reviews I have come across all focus on the incredibly moisturising properties of this product, which coming with such green ingredients list silicone-free, petrolatum-free and paraben-free is already rightfully earning attention. I first heard about it on Little Golden Lamb (whose reviews I dig for their attention to detail and never missing ingredient list) and everyone after that had nothing but praises for it.
I also find it relevant that it seems to be one of the very few moisturising treatments which does not feature shea butter, in case you're one of those whose hair and scalp don't quite like it.
Cons: The consistence is really gooey, which doesn't make it quite easy to spread it evenly on the hair. Also the tube it comes in is just 4.34 oz (123g) which might not last a lot (I used it twice and I am already halfway through it, and as curly as they can be, I have short hair) and being discontinued, at least in Europe, I foresee the price per tube potentially increase from the current 9.29£. I find its moisturising and softening effects are best seen if the treatment has been worn under a plastic cap overnight rather than just for 15 minutes as suggested (not even 30 minutes seemed to be enough for me), but the difference to the touch is clearly noticeable.
Pros: The ingredients list shows it is a really natural product with high levels of the ingredients it claims to carry, as the list is short and Avocado oil stads third in line, just after Olive oil. Overall, it can really soften hair without the need to feature shea butter, which is a rare occurrence, but really to be appreciated if you are on the lookout for moisture and your hair do not necessarily like shea butter.
All in all yes, I like it, a lot, and I would strongly advice to stock up if you do too!
Today is a hair was day... I was originally supposed to do it on Monday but my Mother and I went shopping and didn't get home until like 8:30(pm). Then I was going to do it on Tuesday but first I didn't get home until 5:30 after 3 classes, plus my grandmother had just gotten home after being on vacation for 2 weeks, so I wanted to spend time with her <3 So I decided to to an overnight pre-poo with coconut oil. I'm going to wash my hair in a bit (after I put some sweet potatoes in the oven), wish me luck cause it'll take a few hours -_-
