A Protein Packed Pre-Workout Snack #ILoveSilkSoy
The power of protein. Our bodies need it for bones, muscles, and body chemicals, among other things. Because the body does not store protein, it’s important to add it in throughout the day. It is especially beneficial when working out because protein can be converted by the body into glucose for energy. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite protein packed pre-workout snacks: Oatmeal with Vanilla…

Healthy Avocado Quesadilla Ingredients: Half a medium sized organic avocado Quarter cup shredded cheese of your choice (I prefer a mexi mix) One Rudi's Organic Bakery Multigrain Wrap Dash of Boursin salt Dash of pepper Pinch of cilantro Instructions: Lay the wrap flat on the pan Cover one half with chopped avocado and the other half with shredded cheese. Chocolate Almond Protein Bars You'll Mistake For Dessert INGREDIENTS 1 cup raw almonds 1/4 teaspoon sea salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 1/2 cups rolled oats 5 ounces plant-based vanilla protein powder (I like Garden of Life Raw or SunWarrior) 1/3 cup maple syrup 1/4 cup dairy-free chocolate chips (optional) DIRECTIONS Prepare an 8 x 8-inch square pan by lining with parchment paper or cooking spray. Measure out 1/4 cup of the almonds, chop, and set aside for the topping. In a food processor, pour in the remaining 3/4 cup of almonds and the salt. Process until you have almond butter, several minutes. Add the oats, protein powder, and maple syrup, and process until smooth. Press mixture into the pan using the back of a spoon. Top with chopped almonds, pressing those into the bars. Place chocolate chips in a small glass bowl, and microwave until melted. Drizzle chocolate over the bars, and allow to set in the fridge for 20 minutes before cutting. Store uneaten bars in an airtight container in the fridge.
chewy maple granola bars
Photo via Pinterest... I love the packaging!
These bars are from a recipe I created years ago for Fitness Magazine. I thought they would be perfect to share in January, when getting into shape is on the mind. These bars are a great for grab-and-go breakfast or a pre-workout snack! yield 36 bars FOR THE BARS 3 cups old fashioned oats 1 cup each sliced almonds, shredded sweetened coconut, dried cherries or cranberries, chopped dried apricots and chopped dates 1/2 cup each raw hulled sunflower seeds and toasted wheat germ 2/4 cup whole-wheat flour 3/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon grated orange zest 2/3 cup orange juice 3/2 cup maple syrup 8 tablespoons (1stick) unsalted butter, melted 2 tablespoons vanilla extract 1 large egg
TO MAKE THE BARS Heat oven to 350 d F. Line a 15 1/2-by-10-by-1-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil, extending foil 2 inches beyond each short side of baking pan; coat foil with cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine first 9 ingredients. In a medium bowl, whisk together remaining 8 ingredients. Stir into oat mixture evenly into pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Cut into 36 bars. When they're completely cool, remove bars from pan.
What's a good pre-workout snack?
I have futsal/soccer for PE and I only have a 30 min. break before that. What should I eat before so I would not get tired easily?
Help me out guys, please?
