In the 1830s William Spooner produced a special kind of engravings called 'Protean Views'. In these prints the picture was transformed by backligthing.

This is 'Destruction of a Swiss Village by an Avalanche'. The image size is 13 x 18 cm

Muybridge equipments: the photo array used to film Occident and other Stanford horses (image taken sometime between 1877 and 79), an alternating shutter system for each camera (each camera had two lenses and two plates, the idea being to take two images and to keep the better of the two for reproductions), a 9-lens board for taking quick succession images and then two component pieces for the array (an electric shutter device with timer), an electric timer developed for a similar system, a motion study, “Fancy Dancing” from 1885, taken from the Philadelphia experiments that later became Animal Locomotion
