Am I the only one who keeps getting Plinko ads? Like, holy fucking shit. Gambling has and always will be predatory, but their ads are not only misleading and malicious, but they're preying on vulnerable people. I've seen one where they had a minimum wage workers behind on rent by 2000$ literally be told that it was "easy" and "quick" to make cash on their app, making it sound like free money (and showing free money handed in someone's wallet).
I do not like gambling, so of course I am biased, but I think it's a very obvious line to not advertise to vulnerable people. But you see, capitalism. Anyways. They're vulnerable hence desperate hence perfect targets! They don't have much wallets, but it doesn't matter if they go into more debts so the house gets richer. Remember: the house always win.
Another ad I saw, this one is fuzzier so apologies on bad recall, displayed someone at a gas station who was speaking again of financial problems they faced. (Vague this time, sticking to what I know happened.) Overheard of course by the designated spokesperson for this app who also gave free cash to the person AND advertised the app, as always.
The most recent one featured a pregnant woman being mocked for not being able to afford her child. (Noting that tumblr is an American platform to my knowledge, it is hilariously ironic the ad would say that: after all, you can't abort in every state. But even if she could, she shouldn't have to??) Because she'd pick cheap macaroni, which is entirely respectable, the economy sucks. Then of course, spokesperson pops in to save the day!/heavysarcasm The free cash trope AND of course, saying to a vulnerable person that this GAMBLING app will solve all their MONEY problems, not withstanding that what it will actually cause is crippling debt and destabilizing even further an unstable household.
Because you're not different. Mathematically speaking, you will never win. See, there is that notion in mathematics where you multiply the chance of an event happening by its value minus the cost of playing the game, and whether or not it's a positive or negative number will determine whether it's a winning game or not. All games are rigged against you, with the exception of a few small lotteries. You, personally, will never win. That's how the game's built. It depends on someone winning- and it depends on having sunk their talons deep enough into them so they give it all back anyway.
The house always win.
