i didn't love superman returns, but i didn't like, fundamentally disagree with the movie's interpretation of superman either. i also never got several years of recurring hatemail from a guy who told me to kill myself just because i didnt like zack snyder's increasingly objectivist reimagining of a jewish folk hero into a republican. given kelly marie tran having just been apparently run off instagram by a roving mob of torch wielding **star wars trufans**, and given that being just the latest iteration of a trend that can be directly traced back through 'opposition' to leslie jones, finn, rey, heimdall, rue (and on and on), and also amber heard accusing johnny depp of misconduct (and on and on), and anita sarkeesian doing 101 level feminist analysis of video games, and all the way back to (and before too but this feels like the precipitating incident of nomalization that made gamergate possible) penny arcade literally selling a dickwolves pennant while personally leading a harassment campaign against, rape survivors who criticized their shitty rape joke? it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to point out that the radicalization of young men is affecting everything across the board, so the fact that the online trolls today running kelly marie tran off the web grew increasingly bolder, louder, more numerous, and better organized at the exact same time and rate as the alt-right neonazis embodied by open college white supremacist stephen miller still having a job in THE FUCKING WHITE HOUSE? miiiight be a signal that these are all the same dudes. and yes, there have literally always been awful dudes on the internet, but now they have a political platform, rich donors, a foothold in a major party, and the ear of the president of the united states. #supermanreturns #manofsteel #starwars #streetharassment #altright #4chan #predditors #trumpets #radicalisationofthenerds #ihateillinoisnazis

The First "Assault Weapon": Banning Guns Based on "Style" Rather than Function this is a condescendingly reductive take still rooted in **technical accuracy** that raises an important point - the category of 'assault weapon' was created based on widespread confusion dating back to 89 abt whether 'military style' weapons are proper 'machine guns' like the ak47 - but then completely ignores all other context around the issue such as, why the public was upset about 'assault weapons' in 1989, why they are today, that the reason is the same thirty years later, that this **fake** category of weapons continues to be the weapon of choice in the mass shootings that keep happening here in the us where there is a huge supply of and easy access to such weapons, but not elsewhere where such weapons are far more heavily restricted and ofc it frames the issue in boilerplate conservative rhetoric about **fairness**, as though the real victims year after year were the poor gun owners being unfairly denied access to their favorite toys just so the nanny state big government can save a few lives here and there and it explicitly whinges abt the media being to blame for 'continuing to misrepresent the issue', and claims that reduced support for an assault weapon ban since 89 is because of the triumph of reason and facts over ignorance and mob mentality and that the millions and milliona of dollars spent by the nra in washington each year is just an educational campaign to raise awareness - and that the money goes to gop politicians who persistently respond to a succession of national tragedies with 'thoughts and prayers' but then roadblock any kind of meaningful progress on gun control year in year out, is just a wierd coincidence the article even mentions but complerely ignores WHY semi-auto rifles styled after proper 'machine guns' are the weapon of choice for mass shooters - because actual machine guns //are illegal for private ownership here//, so ppl get the next best thing. meanwhile, if these clowns really wanted to be **reasonable**, their checkmate argument - that an ar15 is functionally just a glock with a lot of cool attachments - would support banning handguns too, not **never banning anything** remember, guns don't kill people, the invisible hand of the free market does
