i didn't love superman returns, but i didn't like, fundamentally disagree with the movie's interpretation of superman either. i also never got several years of recurring hatemail from a guy who told me to kill myself just because i didnt like zack snyder's increasingly objectivist reimagining of a jewish folk hero into a republican. given kelly marie tran having just been apparently run off instagram by a roving mob of torch wielding **star wars trufans**, and given that being just the latest iteration of a trend that can be directly traced back through 'opposition' to leslie jones, finn, rey, heimdall, rue (and on and on), and also amber heard accusing johnny depp of misconduct (and on and on), and anita sarkeesian doing 101 level feminist analysis of video games, and all the way back to (and before too but this feels like the precipitating incident of nomalization that made gamergate possible) penny arcade literally selling a dickwolves pennant while personally leading a harassment campaign against, rape survivors who criticized their shitty rape joke? it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to point out that the radicalization of young men is affecting everything across the board, so the fact that the online trolls today running kelly marie tran off the web grew increasingly bolder, louder, more numerous, and better organized at the exact same time and rate as the alt-right neonazis embodied by open college white supremacist stephen miller still having a job in THE FUCKING WHITE HOUSE? miiiight be a signal that these are all the same dudes. and yes, there have literally always been awful dudes on the internet, but now they have a political platform, rich donors, a foothold in a major party, and the ear of the president of the united states. #supermanreturns #manofsteel #starwars #streetharassment #altright #4chan #predditors #trumpets #radicalisationofthenerds #ihateillinoisnazis
