Might be a hot take but it's always irked me how the Bad Things community sought after a good ending in which Andrew forgives his abuser rather than Ivan getting help and letting them go their seperate ways

Prefacing and Healthy Writers
I don't know about you, but I write my best work when I am happy, healthy, and feeling alive. I know there's a great mythos around the tortured artist, and I will never deny how hard the work of writing can be, but I don't like the way that suffering has become synonymous with strength in writers. It's harder to be healthy; we should take up the challenge.
I am also constantly reminding my students that the world wants to think favorably about their writing, and they need to not bias them against it. Prefacing your work negatively is a bad choice; I am trying to train it out of my students.
