Yasha’s been hard at work with her amateur flower shop, a far cry from what she was raised to be in her tribe. But she can’t help but feel like she’s forgetting something.

And that is when Beau shows up one day out of the blue, smirking. Yasha doesn’t notice whatever Beau has had behind her back this whole time she’s been here.

That is, until she turns her own back to her... and all becomes dark.

Notes:

Surprise! A “Voice of the Heart”-themed one-shot fic for Beauyasha Week 2021! Don’t worry, you don’t need to have read the original fic to enjoy this one, although this DOES take place after the final chapter!

But just in case, a little something of note: Clara and TJ Lionett are far removed from Thoreau and are living far happier lives. Also, as with “Voice of the Heart”, it doesn’t completely take into account events following Episode 119, so… just so you know.

Also, Beau’s multiclassed into artificer for reasons revealed in the original story. Just FYI.

Shepard mutters under his breath as he shucks off his boots and shrugs out of his jacket, revealing the charcoal sweater he wears underneath. Sam in a sweater is not something Kaidan expected to enjoy this much, especially given the piece of straw stuck to his head and the production he makes out of clearing his nose.

“Why the hell do we live in a place where the air hurts my face?” Shepard demands.

Kaidan raises an eyebrow and tucks the fleece blanket draped over him a little tighter to further seal out the blast of cold air followed Shepard through the door.  “Because I don’t think Echo would do well on a frigate.”

Shepard’s mouth curves in a grin, which only makes the sweater look even more appealing. Hell, if he ever thinks he’s going to talk Kaidan into living somewhere that doesn’t require winter wear he’s sorely mistaken. Kaidan watches appreciatively as Shepard makes his way over to the couch and kneels down to kiss his forehead.

“Hey, you,” Kaidan says, plucking the piece of straw from his head.

Shepard smiles a tender smile, which dissolves into a grin when he presses the backs of his knuckles to Kaidan’s cheek. Kaidan yelps in surprise and jerks away.

“How are your hands so cold?”

The grin gets bigger and more shit-eating. “Now you know how it feels, Mr. Necomancy hands.”

Kaidan makes grab for him, but Shepard’s too quick. He gets back up with a chuckle. “Gonna go make something warm. Be right back.”

“Don’t set the kitchen on fire,” Kaidan calls after him.  

“Fuck you,” Shepard replies affectionately over his shoulder.

“Warm your hands up first.”

“I see...what section are you going to?” Shuichi asked.

“Dairy. I need milk and eggs, since Amami-chan, the annoying piglet, and Keeboy are all coming over tomorrow to bake cookies.”

“I’m going to the dairy section, too! I have to pick up some orange juice.”

“My, what a coincidence! Or perhaps it could be fate?”

“I highly doubt it’s fate, Ouma-kun.”

“Nishishi~You know you could at least amuse me, my beloved Saihara-chan.”
