When it gets here, we’ll be ready
The weather forecast raises the possibility of snow here Friday morning. I don’t care. This is our getting-ready-for-summer trip and, damn it, we’re getting ready.
My actions are guided by the assumption that summer is knocking on the door and the belief that my efforts will make it come sooner. If we’re ready for summer, how could it not come?
I’ve been preparing the boat ready for its first cruise, setting up the porch swing, dragging garden hoses and lawn ornaments out of the garage, hanging our “SCHNEIDER” shingle out in front ...performing all the routine early-May chores that herald a new season.
After all, Memorial Day - the traditional start of summer - is less than three weeks away.
Sharon saw me preparing to install screens on the porch and said, “It’s going to be a long time before we can sit out there.”
Maybe, but we’ll be ready.
