Prefetching and prerendering
I know about prefetching in Firefox (Mozilla) for quite some time because I experienced some problems once in development when only Firefox did prefetch random pages and caused some havoc on my website with the session.
Now it seems that Google with Chrome is catching up and introduces its own prefetching plus prerendering.
In Google' s Webmaster Central Blog the new features have been introduces under the title Making more pages load instantly. What looks like a change in Google's search page is actually a change in Chrome and will have an impact in many ways.
More details are revealed on Google's developers site and in a whitepaper called the Web Developer's Guide to Prerendering in Chrome.
Prerendering in Chrome takes advantage of new attributes in HTML5 for the link element.
