Illustration of Thomas McCabe’s shop & house which existed in North Street, Belfast in the late 18th century. Goldsmith & Watchmaker Thomas McCabe was an Ulster-Scots Presbyterian & founding member of the United Irishmen.

 In 1786 he famously prevented a slave-owning shipping company from setting up business in Belfast. These exploits led Theobald Wolfe Tone to style him as the 'Irish Slave'.
