Pushing Buttons
Morning: Maeve It started at a team briefing when Maeve throws the first punch, metaphorically speaking. She leans back in her chair, arms crossed, a smug smirk on her face. "Look at you, all calm and collected. Let me guess—James gave you one of his ‘talks’? Or maybe he just batted those dreamy vampire eyes and told you to play nice?" She takes a sip of her coffee, clearly enjoying herself.
Midday: Ashley Barrett Later, during a PR meeting, Ashley nervously tries to give Homelander some feedback but ends up blurting out something truly unfortunate. "So, um, the public loves that softer side of you. Really! It’s great for the brand. James must be, uh… really good for you! You know, like, keeping you grounded… and less… terrifying…"
Ashley panics, trying to backpedal. "N-no! I mean, terrifying in a good way! The, uh, inspiring kind of terrifying!"
Afternoon: The Deep The Deep, trying to be one of the "cool kids," decides it’s his turn to chime in during a break in filming for a commercial. "Are those for James? Never thought I'd see you totally whipped. Bet he’s got you picking out curtains and— uh, Did i say whipped? Y-you’re… not whipped! Totally not whipped!" swallows hard.
Evening: A Vought Board Member As if the day wasn’t bad enough for a smug Vought executive cornered Homelander in the hallway after a fundraiser, James was taking care of some red tape in the filming contract. "Homelander, it’s so nice to see you happy. Though I gotta say it really is a shame Mr. Norrington stepped down. Honestly, we were worried you might snap before he came along. Hahaha" alluding to the idea that James has him on leash. The man chuckles, completely oblivious. Daring to pat pat the blonde on the shoulder "You’re almost… approachable now. It’s a good look for you, Jack!" Jack.. John.. something like that.
