Note: I received these shadows for free courtesy of Heroine Cosmetics. I’m not obligated to review them, nor am I paid to do so.
Heroine Cosmetics Beneath the Sea Collection ($1.50–$6.50 for 1/8 tsp to 2g) is described as “reminiscent of fairy tales about magical worlds under the sea, like The Little Mermaid, this collection is a treasure all its own.”
Seashell is “a pastel purple with an iridescent, aqua shimmer finish.” Semi-opaque lavender with shimmer. My eye can’t tell that the shimmer is aqua, it looks silver to me. It takes some work to build it to a fuller opacity. Blends well.
Sea Nymph is “an iridescent, blue-green aqua color with a shimmery, metallic finish. This one reminds us of a mermaid’s tail!” Semi-opaque metallic aqua. It takes work to build it to a fuller opacity but I would say skip the work and use a base. I like patting this on the lid over Colourpop Flower Shop. Blends well and and there’s some fallout.
Ocean Soul is “a shimmery blue that makes us think of crashing ocean waves.” Deep cobalt with silver shimmer. Blends well.
Sunken Treasure is “a medium dark brown with gold, silver and bronze glitter. The glittery colors of treasure!” True to description, the silver and bronze shimmer picks up strongest for me. Blends well.
Swatches were created using a Sonia Kashuk lid #1 brush over Too Faced Shadow Insurance on the left and Fyrinnae Pixie Expoxy right. These were taken indoors with direct sunlight from the left.
Overall, these shadows are the same drier formula as seen before from Heroine. I do find these to be a slightly powdery set of shadows. Ocean Soul stands out to me, and while Sunken Treasure performs just as well, a good blue is harder to come by.
Heroine Cosmetics Vigilantes Collection ($1.50–$6.50 for 1/8 tsp to 2g) is described as “ inspired by one of our favorite vigilantes. They watch from the shadows, delivering swift justice to those who operate outside the law and wrong the denizens of their city, or they could just be scraping by, taking down people who prey on the weak. Either way, they are always there, watching, waiting, ready to bring down those who do wrong at a moment’s notice. They are the vigilantes!” Mini and full size items in the collection feature artwork by @amyzen.
Master of Stealth is “a deep crimson red with gold shimmer and a slight metallic finish.” True to description, but I’d say it’s only metallic rather than shimmery.
Tortured Past is “a medium-brown, saddle tan color reminiscent of the Old West. Or the future spacey west, what have you.” Warm medium brown, blends well.
Crimefighter is “a dark eggplant purple packed with silver sparkles.” True to description. I get very little silver shimmer in this one. It stays rich when blended, reminiscent of Lime Crime Fetish.
Cloaked in Shadow is “a matte black jam packed with gold sparkles.” True to description. The photos do no justice to how well the gold shimmer picks up even without a sticky base, the tape didn’t want to cooperate and did take away from the edges of the swatch. It blends well, stays black, and while there is fallout it isn’t outrageous.

A solid set of shadows. This is my favorite collection from Heroine. Cloaked in Shadow stands out to me, I rarely come across a shimmery black that performs well. It’s very much an ‘autumn’ set to me too. Master of Stealth and Tortured Past are workhorse shades. Crimefighter is a nice warm departure for the purples in my collection, plus it works well the outer-v for something just a little different.
