hello, i was just wondering what the foxhole court is?

i’m glad you asked!! the foxhole court is the first novel in the all for the game trilogy by nora sakavic (i use the tfc acronym to tag for the whole series just because).

here’s the summary from smashwords, where sakavic has self-published the ebooks:

Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He’s short, he’s fast, he’s got a ton of potential—and he’s the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher.

Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile and he doesn’t need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed.

But Neil’s not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil’s new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can’t walk away from him a second time. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he’s finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

…it’s better than it sounds, filled to the brim with tragic pasts, s l o w-burn romance, and found family feels. the writing can be unpolished and self-indulgent at times, but the plot and characters are worth it imo. best of all, there’s canon gay! canonically! in canon! wow. and the first book is free on amazon, smashwords, ibooks, kobo, & indigo B)

i once described the trilogy on ello thusly:

this is like. captive prince meets gnomon meets the singleminded obsessiveness of the secret history. as a sports anime, in novel form,

which i stand by, and which honestly should give you a p good idea of whether or not it’s for you. a lot of raven cycle fans also seem to like it, probably because certain prominent characters in tfc are the same blend of trash & angst as certain beloved characters in trc. but tfc goes way harder. be warned

there are a LOT of things in the series that could be triggering or otherwise distressing, so i honestly wouldn’t recommend the series to everyone. if you want detailed warnings feel free to ask and i’ll do the best i can :)

so i’ve started writing this foxhole court au fic where neil goes to st andrews & andrew is one of prince kevin’s bodyguards, and it’s going well but i’m worried about my ability to sustain it bc this is a long-con idea and i am a flighty writer
