Just re-read chapter 7 of Previous Engagements for the first time in... a while, and wow. I was... Really Going Through It huh.

Just as the title of the chapter foreshadows, this really is the rock bottom of the fic in terms of angst! Despite the fic being Isabeau centric, I waited until chapter seven of ten to show his POV - reflecting the way that Isabeau felt sidelined in his own family.

So! A little peak behind the curtain, but how I like to write my fics is to write a plan/summary of the chapter in bullet points in the most barebones way possible. Just get a really comprehensible idea of the story, emotions and themes I want to convey before trying to dress them up all nicely. I don't always stick to the plan, but it's nice to have a box to think out of! Sometimes I have to do multiple passes if a moment is really complex, and I think this records the moment when I realised exactly what I wanted to do with Carmen's character!

Their relationship is actually such a can of worms, it was so much fun. Oh Previous Engagements, my thesis that earned me my Isabeau PHD, I miss you so much. Need to put that man back in a torment nexus one of these days...

I just realised I've never made a post about this!

Ok, finally (FINALLY!!) finished the first draft of Previous Engagements Chapter 8. It should've been done faster, but like, the horrors y'know? Honestly, I needed some time to emotionally recover from writing that last chapter, that crab was ROUGH.

It's all good though! This chapter's like, actually funtm, so it serves as a nice pallet cleanser, I hope.

Previous Engagements Update Tomorrow!! So glad the horrors (exams) are over with so I can go back to my true calling - torturing the blorbos! If the first five chapters was me turning up the heat in the pressure cooker, this one has got to be me dumping it straight Into The Fire.
