leaving was always hard for john price. especially when it was between you and work. he loved what he did and he loved you so dearly.
but when duty calls, john price always has to answer.
that’s where you find yourself tonight, his hands covering your cheeks and peppering kisses all over your forehead. your fingers gripping onto his uniform, letting the tears well up but never fall.
“gonna miss you, love.” price mumbles all quiet, his thumb caressing your cheek as you lean into the warmth of his touch. “always gonna miss you, don’t you ever forget it.” the older man reminds— no, promises you with a melancholic look in his eyes.
and you nod because.. you know. deep down, you know damn well the feeling is mutual but fuck.
“i’ll still miss you and i’ll love you just as much when you get back.” you mumble, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips. price hums, leaning into your warmth. you both linger, you stay pressed up against each other until the familiar crackle of gravel signaling the arrival of the task force.
price pulls away and gosh, how badly do you want to hold him and beg him to stay.
instead, you press a kiss to his cheek and nudge him in the direction of the car.
“i’ll see you soon.” you whisper with a sad smile, waving him off.
you ensure that the car is fully out of your driveway before you find yourself tearing up at the front door.
you will absolutely miss him.
