The Methodist church seen in the period photograph was relocated to a much smaller building in the middle of the modern view.
The curved building to the right was the Royal Hotel which was replaced by a curved Woolworths building which would later become Pricebusters.
A 1920's view down Adelaide Street towards the Promenade where The Royal Hotel used to be located before being demolished to make way for a new Woolworths building (pictured in the 1970's), which later housed a variety of commercial ventures but most will remember it being the Pricebusters store.
The Royal Hotel was originally called Hull's, named after the owner Edward Hull (who also owned the entire Hounds Hill estate!).
The site of The Royal Hotel, originally called Hull's, and a much smaller Woolworths shop next door to the Tower was replaced by a large Woolworths building in 1938.
It later housed a variety of businesses including Pricebusters, Heaven & Hell, Sports Direct and more recently, The Albert and the Lion pub.
The former Woolworths building with its famous cafe above. Later it became the towns Pricebusters store with various nightspots above it. Today it's a pub and sports retail outlet.
This corner of the former Pricebusters building (originally a Woolworths) has been the entrance to numerous nightspots over the years.
Bank Hey Street, the Palace buildings have since been demolished and replaced with a glass structure, no photo available of it from this location as of yet.
