Summary: Steve caught you kissing someone. You are afraid that he is going to fire you.
Pairing: Gay Avenger Steve Rogers x Bisexual Avenger female reader
Word count: TBA
Warnings: mention of homophobia, religion, conversion camp, I think that's it but if you see anything else, don't hesitate to tell me.
A/N: This is a participation to @marvel-oc-hub pride event. The prompt was: Reader comes out to an Avenger when their family is not accepting. I also decided to use it as my Canon platonic square. I think there might be other fics, but we never know. I feel like the one that I am thinking about will finish with ambiguity, so I am not sure that it would work. Anyway, that's it. I hope you enjoy it.
You were kissing your girlfriend, giggling when your heart stopped for a brief second. You saw the blue eyes looking at you under the helmet. You would recognise them anywhere. After all, not that long ago, you had fallen for them.
The traffic light turns green. You watch him ride in the direction of the tower.
"Is everything alright?"
You turn your head to see the worried face of the angelic woman that you were kissing a few instants ago.
"I don't know, but I guess I will know about it soon enough."
You went back to her place. You watched a movie and cuddled. You could not stop thinking of the consequences of your actions.
It has been a week since Steve saw you with Cami. You expected Fury to call you or even Steve to make a speech. You expected to be taken out of the team. Each day passing, you were feeling yourself be more and more anxious. Steve pretended that nothing had happened, but you knew not to trust his behaviour. You decided to take the bull by the horns. You saw Steve going to his bedroom. You knocked, and he opened the door surprised.
"We need to talk."
He let you in, and you wait for him to close the door before asking.
"Why did you not say anything?"
He looked at you calmly, as if you were talking about the weather.
"I assumed that you would when you will be ready."
"You did not talk to Fury about it?"
This time, he was surprised that you could think he would called Fury. It might be the boss of them all buy there was no need for it.
"Why would I?"
"For him to kick me out."
"To kick you out? Why would I want him to kick you out?"
"Because I love women and man. Because I am bisecual and it's not natural. Because I will burn in hell."
You turned to look by the window, tears filling your eyes. When your parents discovered that you liked women, they lost their mind. They prayed and preached for you to become normal again. It was just a phase, something that was coming from the new girl at school. You befriended her, and now you were tainted by her. You told them that it was not true and that you knew long before Carla arrived that you liked girls, but you just did not want to admit it. Carla did not even like girls. She was just a tomboy. A pretty tomboy but not a lesbian. You were just friends, nothing more.
They thought about sending you away. This is why at sixteen you run away from your family, your town and your life. It has been hard but not as hard as pretending that sending you away would change anything.
"Y/N, you can love who you want. It does not matter for me as long as you are a good person."
You almost stomped your feet like a child.
"But I am not."
They told you that you were not. They told you that you were tainted.
"You are. And if you go to hell, I guess I will join you."
You turned to look at him, frowning your eyebrows.
"I am in love with Bucky, and we are together."
You took a step back without realising it.
"Oh, why did you not say anything?"
"Because I did not think it mattered."
"It doesn't."
He approached you, putting his hands on your shoulders.
"Like it doesn't matter to me who you are dating, just kissing or doing business with."
You smiled. Steve was almost one hundred years old, but he still could not say the word sex out loud. You found it funny.
"I wish that my parents could think like you. They think I have a disease or something and that it can be fixed by going to a camp."
Steve heard about conversion camps. He still could not believe that they existed. It was on his bucket list to eradicate them. It was not just because he was gay himself but because it had never been a choice.
"You know, we don't choose our parents but we can choose our family. And I can be yours. The team can be yours, too. Everybody loves you, and we are here for you."
Tears started to escape you.
"I don't think I can tell anybody else."
He tugged you into a hug.
"Come here. That's alright. You will do it when it feels comfortable. It might not be today or tomorrow, but one day, when you are ready."
"Thank you Steve."
"Of course. And don't worry about your job. You will never lose it."
He kissed you on your forehead while hugging you tighter, letting you cry in his arms. Hl
He promised himself to announce the team that him and Bucky were together. Like this, you will see that people truly care for you and would not care about who you are dating. You deserved not to be scared of being yourself .
Overly supportive parents who assume their son is gay and are awaiting his coming out are shocked to find out that not only is he straight, he is their only straight child because once the other kids see their disappointment they all come out at the same time.
Modern!TheRuFumi going to Pride together while L’Arc's patents babysit Filo and Raohtalia us out with her friends.
They're all having fun, watching the parade and all the people having fun around.
Also, L’Arc is wearing a "Free Dad Hug For Anyone Who Needs It" T-Shirt and Therese is wearing one but with Mom instead.
Cue Itsuki, Ren, and Rishia all coming over for hugs after seeing a few others get some a smiling after.
After a few hours Raphtalia and her friends, Keel and Rifana, end up finding them and getting hugs too.
Also, Naofumi is wearing Cargo shorts and a rainbow tanktop and stupid amount of glitter, and a free pride pins and a rainbow belt. He also has fabulous rainbow-themed makeup on.
L'Arc is wearing Rainbow shorts and the T-Shirt and stickers all over his arms because Filo found the stickers in his desk and wanted to put them on.
Therese is wearing a rainbow shirt and rainbow stocking and the T-Shirt, and she has a incredible amount of pins and badges in ger hair, and she's also not getting the glitter iut for the next many months.

Masterlist:
Coming out to the Avengers that you’re bisexual:
Let’s be real. It wasn’t exactly something you’d planned on telling them, even if you knew they’d be pretty cool about the whole thing. Hell, you’d been there when you’d all decided to go along to Pride the year before, spending the day incognito and covered in so much rainbow glitter it took weeks to get rid of it all.
Still, you were pretty private about things to do with your personal life so the only way you were ever planning on mentioning it was through force, or if the circumstance arose where you met someone and wanted to bring them along to your regular social nights at the Tower.
Pepper was practically begging you to bring someone at this point, given the fact most people had started coupling up and you could tell she was worried you felt left out.
“Pepper. It’s good. Don’t worry. Thor and I like teaming up against you lot, and Wilson. Hell, we won charades last week.”
“True. I just worry you shut yourself off, that’s all. It’s good to let someone in once in a while.”
She’s not wrong, but you’re not about to tell her that. Especially when you did - as a matter of fact - have someone, but you weren’t exactly sure she’d enjoy having the entirety of the Avengers gawking over her.
However, like everything in your life, things soon fall outside of your control.
It would be a week later that it happened.
It was just an ordinary night and everyone was off doing different things around the tower. So, you felt a little more confident than usual as you made your way into the living room for your weekly meeting.
Maria was already sat waiting for you on the sofa, a briefing in hand for you regarding the latest op you’d been working on.
As official liaison to the Avengers, she was often here on business… and sometimes for pleasure too.
You grin as you nestle in beside her, listening as she goes on and on about tactical data. Her voice is soft and she looks oddly relaxed, arm wrapped around you.
Normally, you’d be nervous someone would walk in on you two or see you together, but you’d been assured everyone was out or busy. You were supposedly alone, and you were going to make the most of it.
You leant forward as she finally finished reading, pressing a soft kiss to her lips in an attempt to distract her from work long enough you could convince her to come back to your room.
Of course, once she got over her surprise, she was only too happy to kiss you back in return.
… then you heard the elevator door open.
You barely had time to blink before you heard someone clear their throat.
That was when you realised what you were looking at: Captain America, striding in to the doorway, his jaw almost hitting the floor in disbelief.
“W… what? You two are-?”
You’re prepared to die there and then from embarrassment, but Maria doesn’t appeared to be all that bothered. In fact, she rolls her eyes as if annoyed at the interruption to what had clearly been the start of something passionate.
“You never seen two people kiss before, Rogers?”
“No - I, have - I just… you did a good job keeping it hidden.”
“Did someone say someone’s hiding something?”
You cursed again as Tony suddenly popped up, most presumably coming from the lab.
Of course he’d have to have overheard you, and of course he had to interrupt in what was already a humiliating moment. Could the world not have just cut you a teensy bit of slack?
“What’s going on? What you keeping from old El Capitano here?”
“Nothing, Tony,” you growl in warning, narrowing your eyes at Steve with all the venom you can muster, knowing all the while it is going to do absolutely nothing. “Nothing at all-”
“I wouldn't say catching you and Hill together, with your hands everywhere, nothing…”
“What?” Tony half gasped, half scoffed, looking as if he was both amused and in disbelief at the news. “I can’t believe I missed it! Was Roger’s face good? Oh, please say someone took pictures!
“Stark,” Maria growled automatically. “Watch it.”
“I’m just saying!”
“Well don’t! No one say anything!”
“Wait,” you choke as a sudden realisation hit you. “You’re all ok with this? That Maria and I are dating?”
“Of course,” Tony replied swiftly, barely batting an eyelid. “Why wouldn’t we be?”
“Well, you know… two girls dating each other…”
“So you’re gay. Big deal.”
Your heart skipped a beat as relief you didn’t know you craved washed over you. “Technically we’re bisexual.”
They don't care what you are. The only thing that does matter to them, or so you guess by the never ending inquisition that suddenly starts, is that you never told anyone.
Natasha in particular is pretty pissed when she gets home to find out you’ve been keeping it from her and Clint. After all, they’d spent so much time with Hill at SHIELD that they’re amazed they didn’t see it sooner.
“But what about when we were in Namibia?”
“Yep.”
“Peru?”
“Only just, but yes.”
“Oh come on!”
This goes on for a while, which obviously means practically everyone ends up being dragged into it as they arrived back home.
By the time Pepper herself arrives, you’re seriously considering whether or not you can get away with killing ‘America’s greatest heroes’.
You’d probably have tried had Pepper and Maria somehow got everyone to shut up and disperse.
Still, for all their teasing and probing, everyone seems genuinely happy for the pair of you. They all make a point of smiling at you or hugging you both as they disappear on out of the room, until it’s just the pair of you and Pepper herself.
“So… is Maria coming to games night this week?”
You can’t help but laugh.
God knows Pepper was always consistent. She never let go of something once she got started. Hence you shoot Maria an apologetic grin and nod in reply.
Maybe you’d have an official partner for games night after all.
I mentioned doing a sweet little pride thingy for this month just for my friends here on tumblr so here's my first little prompt featurying none other than my favorite lgbt+ hc with Trans!Rhys coming out to his core friends from tales!! <3
Word Count: 2100
Rhys isn’t sure what to think of his roommate. Especially not when he’s standing a good foot away from him, practically staring down at his goofy half-smile and thick rimmed glasses. His hand is held out, going for a handshake.
Who even gives handshakes these days?
But Rhys isn’t trying to scare a potential friend away, especially not someone he’s going to be living with for the next nine months. So, he extends his palm, giving the other teen his right hand, only for the stranger's knuckles to collide with the tips of his fingers.
“Oh? A handshake,” The teen stammers out, quickly uncurling his fingers and shaking Rhys’ hand joyfully. “I’m used to just giving fist-bumps, but I get it.”
Rhys is ready to go home. He’s had enough of college.
“I’m Vaughn,” He grins, eyes crinkling as he fixes his glasses over his nose.
Rhys knows what comes next, he’s rehearsed it more times than he can count and he’s more than prepared.
He’s still nervous.
“Uh, Rhys,” He replies, finally pulling his sweaty palm away as he continues to search the much shorter man. He tries not to be so jealous of his perfect skin and teeth. Nor how deep his voice is.
“Sick name, dude!” Vaughn cries out, hands on his hips. “I’ve never met a Rhys before.”
“And I’ve never met a Vaughn,” Rhys shoots right back, almost nervous as he reaches up to scratch the back of his neck. “So, uh, roommates?”
“Looks like it.” Vaughn turns to look over their small room. Or closet, rather. “Eh, I’m just glad I didn’t get an athlete.” He pauses, looking Rhys up and down. “You don’t play basketball, do you?”
“Noooo,” Rhys chuckles out, surprised at his own reaction. “No sports. I’m just here for computer engineering.”
Vaughn lets out a low whistle. “Accounting and Information Science here,” He replies, grinning again. “We might share a few classes!”
Rhys nods, giving him a shrug as he sits down onto his twin-sized bed, bouncing a few times with a sigh. He waits for Vaughn to say or ask something that’ll ruin the moment- that sends Rhys into a spiral of fear that ends with him calling his mom to pick him up.
Instead, Vaughn does the opposite: “So, there’s this really nice pizza spot…”
Rhys is already grinning.
~
It’s a stupid mistake. Something Rhys has told himself over and over to make sure he doesn’t do. But of course, in Rhys manner, he does it anyway.
He tries to unpack as discreetly as possible, to hide his clothes in his drawer of their shared dresser without having to answer too many questions.
Of course, Rhys’ clumsy nature makes it impossible.
He’s not even sure how he tripped, but all he knows is that his knees hurt, probably bruised, from his fall to the floor. He expects Vaughn to stay where he’s at in his bed, pointing and laughing at his unceremonious figure, but the man is by his side in an instant, one hand on his forearm as he helps him back up on his feet.
“Stupid beds’ leg,” Rhys mutters angirly, dusting himself off as he rubs his knees from beneath his jeans. “That’s going to be a problem.”
By the time he looks back at Vaughn, he finds the man holding a good handful of Rhys’ t-shirts back out to him, head tilted as he looks down at the one item he’d left on the floor.
Shit.
Rhys ducks down immediately, grabbing the thin fabric that was one of his many binders, hands already shaking as he takes his shirts out of Vaughn’s palms. He’d turn around and shove them right back into his suitcase were it not for the shorter man standing in his direct way, eyes behind his glasses locked on Rhys’ face.
He awaits the crude remarks and invasive questions but they never come.
“Hey, dude, it’s cool,” Vaughn murmurs then, a smile already on his lips, much softer than the grins he’d given him as they stuffed their faces with cheap pizza.
Rhys blinks, not quite meeting his gaze as he stands frozen in place. He waits for the other shoe to drop, for Vaughn’s facade to fade and be replaced with the ugliness the world often handed him.
“Thanks?” Rhys croaks out, still on edge. He waits for another second, eyes widening as Vaughn begins to shift, moving back to plop back onto his bunk.
“So, as your roommate,” Vaughn starts, fiddling with his echo in his hands. It’s a newer model and Rhys really wants a closer look at it. “I’ll be straightforward with you- I snore like an animal.”
Rhys laughs and all his fear dissipates with it.
-------------------------------------------------
Fiona finds out in a rather… embarrassing manner all the same. It’s a slip of the tongue, a stumbling of his own words.
“Wait, you had more than one operation?” She asks, sitting on the caravan couch with her feet up on the table. Vaughn is… ‘asleep’ beside them both while Sasha drives ahead. Athena is standing off to the side, arms crossed and eyes shut. He hopes she’s asleep. “You said you got your arm and implants done at the same time before.”
Shit.
“W-Well, I mean that they tried to do it all in one go,” Rhys amends. He tries and fails to meet her gaze and he knows already just how badly he’s failed by the slight tick in her eyebrow. She can see right through him- of course she can. Her whole life is based on being able to read people. To sift through lies and half-truths.
“Really now?” Fiona replies, simple. She leans forward just a bit, fixing her shoes over the table as she pretends to be more interested in the buttons at the end of her sleeves. “You’d think it’d be easy for Hyperion to not give a shit and cut you up in the same hour.”
Rhys can practically hear Vaughn’s silent panic. He prays the man is at least asleep in his frozen state.
“I guess Hyperion is full of surprises,” He replies, trying and failing for a cool facade that gets ruined by the cracking of his voice at the last word.
Fiona’s brow only rises higher. “You only had your face implants and arm done, right?”
Rhys mentally kicks himself again. He’s in too deep and there’s nothing else he can really do. Sasha and Fiona, to his own chagrin, don’t trust him that much, and with the voice in his head, he’s thankful.
He can only hope that everything blows over soon without too much damage to either party.
“I had some body modifications done as well,” He states slowly, curling and uncurling his fingers over the table.
The words rest over them both for a moment, the man’s heart practically still as he stares down at the table ahead of him. He’s half terrified and half trying to convince himself he’s not, each ticking second stretching until––
“Oh,” Fiona replies, not even looking over. “Damn, I thought you were going to show off a wheel for a foot or something.”
Rhys grins, out of relief and genuine humor. “I should’ve gone for that, huh?”
“Maybe then you wouldn’t trip all over the place,” Fiona replies, shrugging her shoulders. Her eyes just barely flicker down to his chest and it’s all Rhys needs to know she understood his message loud and clear.
“Hey! The gravity on Pandora is much different then it is on Helios,” He counters, crossing his arms, “Welcome to Pandora where even the gravity is fucked up!”
Fiona only rolls her eyes, the right corner of her lip ticking up every so slightly. “You’re just spoiled.”
Rhys' chest floods with relief as he leans back in his seat. He sends Vaughn a small smile- he swears he smiles back.
-------------------------------------
It’s only a week and a half after the whole vault fiasco before Rhys finds himself inseparable from Sasha. Sure, he’s moved into her and Fiona’s home, finding Helios Fallen to be way too suffocating to stay with Vaughn. He had tried to ensure the pair of sisters he’d be safe in his Atlas biodome, yet neither one was anywhere near as convinced as he was.
Not that he himself was convinced either.
Rhys realizes quickly that he very much always wants to be around Sasha. He spends a lot of his time sitting at the dining table working, her headphones over his ears and using her music to drown out the rowdiness of Hollow Point. Oftentimes, Sasha would let him ramble all his thoughts aloud to her, even pitching in with her own ideas.
It was bliss- sharing his ideas and getting feedback from a gun expert. Almost as blissful as feeling her hand around his.
Of course, with Fiona around nearly every corner, he didn’t have many opportunities to do just that. But that's never stopped him before.
Rhys watches Sasha from across the table, her hand flipping between various pages of his work. She’s focused mostly on the sketches of his designs and potential new programs for the Atlas weapons he’d found in the biodome and were Rhys a good start-up CEO, he’d be focused on his work too.
Instead, he struggles to keep his eyes off her. She’s dressed in her usual home wear, a thin tank top and leggings, her neck adorned with a necklace that matched her usual earrings. Rhys’ memorized the way her hand reaches up to fiddle with the bone of the accessory, chewing her lip all the while.
She’s beautiful and Rhys wouldn’t mind staring at her for the rest of his life.
Of course, he had a few things he’d need to get off his chest first. Literally.
“This SMG,” Sasha says then, flipping the sheet of paper so that Rhys could see. “Did you figure out the recoil for it?”
Rhys blinks, focusing back on the paper, his mind completely blank. “Uh, I’ll have to check on that,” He mumbles, already digging through his stacks of paper.
“Some of these guns are actually really cool,” Sasha adds, smiling. “I’m almost at a loss of words here, Atlas.”
Rhys can’t help his own instinctive grin that comes with the nickname. “Why thank you, Sasha,” He replies. “I’m glad my 9-5s are producing such cool weapons.”
“Anytime, dork.”
God. He really wants to kiss her again.
Rhys sighs, focusing back on his work as he anxiously bounces his leg under the table.
“Oh, is this a prosthetic?” She asks after another beat, showing him one of his many designs. “Like your arm?”
Rhys is more proud and confident in that one. “Yeah!” He grins, “It’s identical to this one.” He pauses to raise his right palm, giving her a quick wave. “Same materials and design at least. A lot less complicated to put on.”
Sasha nods slowly, trying to hide the slight downturn of her lip as she looks back over the prototype.
Rhys has never exactly been known for his grace and he wasn’t about to be known for it now.
“Yeah, it takes a whole operation thing to get it on,” He starts slowly, not meeting her gaze. “But I, uh, was used to going under by then.”
Sasha tilts her head and Rhys just takes the plunge then and there.
“I had some surgeries to fix things I didn’t like about my body,” He continues, his leg nearly numb at this point.
The silence, as heavy as it is, stretches only for a few seconds.
“Oh,” Sasha replies first, blinking. Rhys is borderline terrified once again that she doesn’t quite understand.
He’ll kick himself later for forgetting just how wonderful she is.
“That’s really cool,” She murmurs, going as far as to stretch her hand across the table, wrapping around Rhys’ flesh palm. Comforting him. “You don’t have to be all nervous, Rhys. Surgeries like that happen all the time on Pandora.”
That was news.
“Oh yeah, they have all these body modification stations up in Sanctuary and other cities too,” Sasha goes on, squeezing his palm. “They actually might be Hyperion stations that everyone’s defaced by now.” She shrugs a shoulder. “Hey, it’s good tech.”
Rhys pretends he wasn’t just about to pass out. “I… didn’t know that,” is all he manages.
She smiles and it’s more than enough to rid him of all his fear. He feels stupid for think she’d be anything but this kind.
Her palm lifts off his as soon as footsteps emerge from the hall. He pretends he doesn’t miss her palm around his already.
