Actually I have to say your assumption that crystal defenders are "manga purists" was pretty rude. All of the defenders I've seen have never even read the manga and that's why they can't tell. I think anon was baiting you a bit & you went nuts.
Sorry to say but every single Pride Sider = manga purist, that’s the reason they defended it so angrily and didn’t want to even read any vaild criticism.
A lot of people have been asking what this Pride Side thing is, well let me explain.
When the earth was created Crystal started there was an uproar in the fandom, A LOT of different opinions just like now:
Here’s a list from less to most delusional:
- People who went full WTF (most fans) and noticed the awfulness of Crystal and the trolling from TOEI. SMCF
- People recognizing it’s shit but they’d love it and support it anyway because it’s Sailor Moon after all.
- People who were happy about Sailor Moon coming back to life regardless of the crap Crystal turned out to be but still being able to acknowledge it has its flaws.
- People who were happy about Sailor Moon coming back to life regardless of the crap Crystal turned out to be but being unable to acknowledge its flaws.
- People forcing themselves to love the show and turn a blind eye to every flaw.
- People bringing down the classic anime (which made them fans) in order to make Crystal look better.
- People forcefully loving Crystal not because is good, just because it’s the holy anticipated ~manga version~ and therefore perfect and better than everything else in the franchise. PRIDE SIDE
I’m pointing this out just because,as you can see, there are a lot of different “Crystal Defenders” but the Pride Side is the top tier in delusionalism.
So you’re right when you say not every crystal defender is a manga purist, of course not, but every pride sider is in fact a manga purist. That’s why they:
- Forced (well, more like try) everyone to stop calling out Crystal on its messiness.- Try to convince people Crystal is the best thing just because it’s THE STORY STRAIGHT FROM THE MANGA ZOMMGGGG- Said we are blinded by nostalgia.- Bring down the classic anime for not being faithful to the ~source~ material therefore just because of that is shit and Crystal is better.- Created a parallel world where not even valid criticism towards Crystal is valid. The pride side, as they called it, where you only could post positive reactions and stuff of Crystal.- Came up with pointless and lame excuses for Crystal’s flaws.- Said the show is better because they follow Naoko’s art (which is not true)- Actually think the development in Crystal is awesome because THAT’S HOW IT HAPPENS IN THE MANGA!11!1!- Attacked us on a personal level for not being grateful that because of Crystal the franchise has come back to life and that’s all because of the manga.- Said we were bad fans (or not fans at all) for not supporting Crystal- The manga ended World War II.
I’ve been dealing with manga purists since the 00s and they always come up with the same excuses which are the ones used by the Pride Side.
Also, I think it’s a bit strange that someone who hasn’t read the manga is defending Crystal. Why are you defending it?
Because the animation is good?
Because the pace is good?
Because the character development is good?
Because the toxic Miracle Romance is good?
Because the powerless attacks are good?
Because making out with your own dad is good?
Because the lost message of female empowerment is good?
Because all of them being unnecessary characters with no character whatsoever that no one can tell appart is good?
I could carry on!.
The only way to defend it is by saying that ~it follows the manga~, it’s the only ~good~ thing Crystal has so it’s a bit weird that people who haven’t read the manga defend it when it’s such an awful show by regular anime standards (unless they’re too lazy to read the manga and wanna watch it instead lol).
Any regular person who has eyes likes anime and have never watched Sailor Moon can easily tell how crappy Crystal is and not worth of our time.
So, literally, the only way to defend Crystal is by saying ~BUT IF FOLLOWS THE MANGA!11!1!~ (when it exactly doesn’t).
So what? the show sucks.
