His morning musings were interrupted by soft pecking noises at the patio door.

Three chickens were staring at him with beady yellow eyes, silently demanding an explanation for why their breakfast was late.

Seto finished his tea and meandered out to the shed to mix their feed: generous scoops of nutritious crumble feed, supplemented with spinach, pieces of pumpkin, and crushed oyster shells for calcium. He donned thick leather gloves that went past his elbows and hauled the feed bucket out to the coop. He was greeted by a flapping, clucking ambush of brown feathers.

The rooster leapt up and pecked at his knee.

"Hey!" Seto yelled. "Hasn't anyone taught you 'ladies first?'"

The rooster leapt at him again, flapping his wings aggressively.

"My fiancé is the same size as you and much more ferocious. I'm not impressed."

The rooster responded with a low caaaaaaw .

"Congratulations asshole, you're eating last now."

He set the feed away from hens and snatched up the rooster. He carried him, kicking and squawking, back to the small holding pen, then resumed the morning feeding. He flung handfuls of feed in tan arcs across the run, watching the hens sprint back and forth, scratching and pecking. It was a comical sight that never got old, no matter how many times he watched it. Sometimes Mokuba would sing to them, but it was a tradition Seto and Atem opted not to continue, as the hens didn't appear to care for Phil Collins, Gary Numan, or Metallica. When the hens had eaten their fill, he let out the rooster.

It’s Beginning to Look Like Pridecember

Prompt 2: Blushing

There is something to be said about a person who does not blush. Upon first inspection, one might think said person is not one to be embarrassed easily, whether by themselves or by other people. One could also say that they have a strong sense of confidence which allows them to overcome whatever situation they are placed in that would make any normal human being go red in the cheeks. Did this non-blushing person have no true emotion? Were they robots? Or are they that arrogantly confident they can withstand anything?

Not for “normal” people.

Crush walks by? Blush.

Way too much to drink, and suddenly the sound of face-planting into the floor sounds like a great idea, until you do it?

Blush.

Blushing is human nature. Blushing happens to everyone, and no matter how hard they try, eventually they will crack.

On their final day at the penthouse, Mokuba reflects on the past year and the changes they've made to take their lives back and banish Gozaburo's influence once and for all.       Mokuba began studying agriculture. She made several trips to the homestead with Sentaro while the house was being built to plan out their garden, drafting plans for raised beds, a greenhouse, and crop rows that could be easily covered in the winter. She started working at the Katayama family farm on the weekends to see Maverick and the chickens, and learn everything she could about organic farming.

       But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. The penthouse, for her, had been a catalyst of realization and change. Not long after they moved in she realized she could no longer ignore how foreign and unnatural it felt to live and present as a boy. She put her sewing skills to use and slowly amassed a wardrobe of skirts, crop tops, and heels. With miniskirts came fights: Seto took no issue with her transition, but put his foot down when it came to clothing he felt inappropriate for a girl her age. It sparked a rebellious streak she didn’t think she had in her, and soon she found herself smuggling the forbidden clothing out of the penthouse to change into later, or wearing more modest clothing over her actual outfits. Atem found himself refereeing yelling matches on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. It took a lot of work for Seto to realize, and to admit, that his fears didn’t stem from what she wore, but the dangerous world around her and the statistics tied to it. So they educated themselves. They learned where the LGBT safe havens in Domino were located. They researched hormone replacement therapy, which she had decided she wasn’t yet ready for. In lieu of that, she worked with a vocal coach to keep her voice at a higher, more feminine pitch. Mai taught her how to style her hair and how to use makeup. She took self-defense classes and carried a taser to ease her brother’s worry. She made sure to be as careful and vigilant as she could be, and that was all they could do. She had the support of the entire nerd herd behind her, and Atem and Yugi’s parents, plus Sentaro and his family and of course, Shizuka.

       Shizuka’s love for her best friend was unwavering, and it mattered not what pronouns Mokuba used, the clothes they wore, or how they presented themselves to the world. To Shizuka, Moki was Moki, her childhood best friend, now girlfriend. They knew that no matter what happened with the romantic aspect of their relationship, they would always be in each other’s lives. It was a haven that Mokuba cherished dearly.

PROMPT 19: Doting

Summary:  Yuugi-tachi really don't understand how Seto and Atem could be a couple. But maybe they just aren't looking close enough

Love isn’t always a verbal commitment. Love isn’t always expressed with loud sonnets of romance and declarations of undying loyalty seen in movies and books. Sometimes, love is silent. Love is the little things that people do for one another. Love is the gentle caress of a hand, or a draping of a blanket across someone’s shoulders. Love can simmer, never fully bubbling to the surface, and sometimes go unseen by others.

To strangers, love can be invisible unless they know what to look for.

NOTES: First of all. Thank you to everyone who has read and stayed with me throughout this little series. Secondly, I know it is now officially 2022 and that this is incredibly late, and I apologize for that. I tried to think of stories for the other prompts but they weren't really grabbing me. This one I thought would be a great way to end the series though; it fills my need for over saturated sugar fluff, and my love for these boys.So this is my New Years present to you all. Happy New Year and let's tread in cautiously but with all the optimism we can!
