I’m going to make my own video of how I think Prim’s death will go down in the film because, hey, I like to torture myself.

I agree with ya that I'm anticipating Prim's death as well. I think it might shock a lot of non-readers, as having scores of children getting blown up isn't really something that happens in blockbuster films, let alone YA.
Oh yeah. I feel like it’s really going to be the moment where people appreciate and respect the very adult themes of these stories. As fans, we have been fortunate enough to have the critical success and praise that does garner a general respect, but a lot of people (more audience members than critics) still like to enforce the teen tropes on the story, and it’s so much more than that. Yes, the books are marketed towards teens, yes, the main character is a teen, yes, the series has a large teen following, but it’s more than the stereotypes that come attached to that. Besides, I have always disliked when people hate on something just because it mostly appeals to teens. Teenagers are smart and perceptive and care greatly about the world around them. Their stories reflect that, too.
Anyway - to end my rambling - yes, I hope that scene is a major shocker for non-readers! That’s actually my favorite part about the whole thing - I LOVE hearing what non-readers have to say about the films! As massive book fans, we can’t really judge the movie on its own merits, so hearing their opinions is a good gauge of the film’s effectiveness (and it’s just fun to see them go through the torture we experienced while reading). :)
Things that make me happy: the hunger games
Things that make me sad: the hunger games
MAJOR SPOILER but I can't resist quoting it
"A hovercraft marked with the Capitol’s seal materializes directly over the barricaded children. Scores of silver parachutes rain down on them. Even in this chaos, the children know what silver parachutes contain. Food. Medicine. Gifts. They eagerly scoop them up, frozen fingers struggling with the strings. The hovercraft vanishes, five seconds pass, and then about twenty parachutes simultaneously explode.
A wail rises from the crowd. The snow’s red and littered with undersized body parts. Many of the children die immediately, but others lie in agony on the ground. Some stagger around mutely, staring at the remaining silver parachutes in their hands, as if they still might have something precious inside. I can tell the Peacekeepers didn’t know this was coming by the way they are yanking away the barricades, making a path to the children. Another flock of white uniforms sweeps into the opening. But these aren’t Peacekeepers. They’re medics. Rebel medics. I’d know the uniforms anywhere. They swarm in among the children, wielding medical kits.
First I get a glimpse of the blond braid down her back. Then, as she yanks off her coat to cover a wailing child, I notice the duck tail formed by her untucked shirt. I have the same reaction I did the day Effie Trinket called her name at the reaping. At least, I must go limp, because I find myself at the base of the flagpole, unable to account for the last few seconds. Then I am pushing through the crowd, just as I did before. Trying to shout her name above the roar. I’m almost there, almost to the barricade, when I think she hears me. Because just for a moment, she catches sight of me, her lips form my name.
And that’s when the rest of the parachutes go off.”
One time this girl was being really mean to me and she was always trying to get on my nerves so I saw she was reading the hunger games so I just like whispered prim dies and walked away and I saw her going from like confused to mad to sad and going around to people going like is it true and they were like wait what and i ruined the book for like a whole class and I feel pretty proud
today my math teacher told me he had a confession. There was recently a raffle at our school and he told me and my friend that it reminded him of the reaping so he took 20 slips and wrote Primrose Everdeen on them. I'm not sure if I should be proud...
WHOOPS.
I accidentally told my friend, who is reading Catching Fire at the moment, that Prim dies, trying to explain to her girlfriend the Safe and Sound video....
god, I feel so bad, I really didn't mean too, and she was so upset with me!
I would be too, because I hate when people ruin things for me.
Fuck.
