Traveling Cartoonist-in-Residence: Tyler Cohen Sunday, July 10, 2016 FLAX, Fort Mason, 11am-2pm Mission: Comics & Art, 4pm-6pm
Enjoy two family-friendly events exploring the creative process of cartooning with Tyler Cohen! Meet Cohen at FLAX, 2 Marina Boulevard in Fort Mason from 11am to 2pm or later that day from 4pm to 6pm find her at Mission: Comics & Art, 2250 Mission Street in San Francisco’s Mission District.
While transitioning between locations the Cartoon Art Museum is fostering a series of traveling Cartoonist-in-Residence events taking place throughout San Francisco in 2016 at creative institutions like FLAX, Comix Experience, Mission: Comics & Art, and Two Cats Comic Book Store.
Tyler Cohen will be sharing the process behind her comics MamaPants, Primazonia, and Primahood with visitors at each of these two vibrant San Francisco locations.
For several years, cartoonist Tyler Cohen has developed her special blend of autobiography and surrealism in her independently produced comic book, Primazonia. In this series, she combines her personal challenges as a bisexual woman who strives to bring up her daughter free from restrictive gender roles. These comics also feature the milieu of the otherworldly Primazons and their evocation of the female experience, by turns symbolic and concrete. The result is a comic filled with keen social observations, touching moments, and warm humor rendered in a warm, finely observed art style.
Stacked Deck Press is collecting all of Primazonia and some never before seen material in a single softcover volume, Primahood: Magenta, a book of stories at the crossroads of real life and strange imaginings. Her latest work can be found through the Primahood: Magenta Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1855150928/primahood-magenta
