Numbers don’t have colors. They’re abstract symbols used to quantify reality. Assigning visual traits to them is just your brain free-associating stimuli.

But…

I’ll humor you: Zero’s black. Obvious. It’s the absence of value.

One’s white, it’s a baseline, starting point.

Two’s blue. Stable. Balanced.

Three’s green, it’s the first sign of complexity.

Four’s yellow. Structured, grid-like.

Five’s red. Halfway markers always feel urgent.

Six is orange. Don’t ask me why.

Seven’s purple because prime numbers feel… eccentric. Kind of like a certain Mentalist I know.

Eight’s gray. Symmetrical, mechanical.

Nine’s dark blue.

And ten?

Chrome. Shiny. Because that’s where things start getting interesting again.

Okay… There. Happy? Now go ask a real science question.

Today's post was inspired by a YouTube video, Why do prime numbers make these spirals?, on the channel 3Blue1Brown, created by Grant Sanders

That is a nice emergent pattern!

I wanna juggle with some thoughts/interpretations about dynamical aspects of the distribution of primes.

I recently learned there's a company that makes 13-sided dice, and in like a microsecond my goblin brain decided I absolutely had to have one or I'll die.

Behold, the baker's dodecahedron

They come in 12 different colors, and they're only 3 bucks a pop, so I might splurge and get one of each. I am a simple man, and I am excited by simple things. The number 13 means a lot to me for a variety of reasons, so this sparks more joy than it rightfully should. I love it.

I don't even play tabletop games, I just think dice are neat! I'm gonna start collecting them.
