On Pinterest, I found some beautiful fan arts of Ariel and Eric in a BL version made by a very talented artist, called ripushko, and a new headcanon suddenly came to my mind…
Before you read: I know Ariel is a unisex name, but Aaron would also be fine and I like it, so I think I’ll use it. At first, I was thinking of using them both because I couldn’t decide, but then it occurred to me that it would be too confusing, so I chose Aaron😅

P.S. #1: I know the movie is set in the past, when queer couples couldn’t be happily together, but I like to think that in the fairy tale world homophobia doesn’t exist, so even in this alternate universe Ariel/Aaron and Eric could have had a happy ending and maybe adopt a child as Eric’s heir or something else...? Well, I don’t know, but the real world is already full of hate and homophobia, so let’s pretend that these two cuties could have had a happy ending at least in a BL alternative universe, PLEASE, I NEED IT SO BAD😭 considering the fact that Andersen was probably inspired by the unrequited love he felt for his friend (Edvard Collin) to write the original story, I like to think that at least once the story could have ended well even in a BL version
P.S. #2 (for ripushko fans): I actually know that this artist drew a WEBTOON comic called “Fairybend”, where the Disney princesses were reimagined as boys, so, since their stories were set in the past, they couldn’t have a happy ending, but ripushko also drew alternative fan arts with a happy ending (for example, this artist drew a beautiful fan art of BL Ariel and Eric’s wedding), so there’s still hope that things could have worked out in another alternate universe🥹
