... is something that has killed so many Cdramas for me. These supposedly mature, smart characters who know each other so well just suddenly up and totally misunderstand the persons entire personality/motivations that they supposedly knew so well (Usually with information gained from a totally shady source). Then both sides refusing to say two words to each other about it for like 20 eps. Then having another misunderstanding 2 days after they had the first one. It’s a trend that has made me drop so many shows, not just cdramas.
BUT, what is this?! A ray of light in the script writing??
I’ve seen it in a few lately but most recently in my watch list ‘The Rebel Princess/Monarch Industry’ had the most wonderful mature and understanding relationship that didn’t jump to conclusions and instead spoke to each other like adults. A rare find indeed!
Now though! I have seen it once more in an unexpectedly fantastic drama: ‘The Imperial Coroner’.
First off our FL takes the responsibility for this misunderstanding and causing trouble, instead of blaming our ML for it alone. Though here she’s also talking about taking responsibility for causing a prince to fall ill due to her actions.
Next then, our ML takes the responsibility of explaining himself in full to her and never blaming her for her reaction to his actions. Nor apologising but still admitting his mistakes. Then, explaining why it was necessary. For her safety and the safety of all the people he cares about.
It goes one for a little while, but this is the bulk of the important stuff. He goes on to say that he doesn’t blame her for not telling him the truth but he must find out the truth himself even if she doesn’t help him because her safety means more to him.
She goes on to assure him she doesn’t hate him for it and was just scared. (It’s plenty clear that as both a rumoured illegitimate child and female coroner our FL has had very little positive interaction with strangers outside her family and this prince is the first guy outside her family to treat her kindly and with respect. So her struggle with understanding people despite being so smart is plenty understandable to me. But I’m getting off topic.)
Anyway they manage to solve this in the span of only half an episode and our main couple is as close as ever for it. I hope the drama keeps this up. Though I do feel very robbed of a perfect whump opportunity when our ML coughs blood at the end of the previous episode due to this misunderstanding and instead of getting to see our characters reactions and immediate aftermath of some struggling and possible unconsciousness. The next episode skips all that and cuts to just seeing out ML in bed. Dang it drama!
Yet, that doesn’t ruin the moment.
So, can I just say bravo drama!
