Though we’ve somehow only encountered Prince Charlez once in the past, by way of his cameo on Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Champagne, Secrets, & Chanel’, it’s time we truly learned why this artist is such a sought-after songwriter. The Compton native has just released his debut EP, Evolution, co-produced by XO Record’s Danny Boy Styles, and it features this fantastic single, Back Around. Prince Charlez has written for huge names in music, including Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, and Beyoncé. The alt-R&B and hip hop infused pop he’s crafted for himself on Back Around is sooty hooking and rhythmically contagious, with hints of Pharrell and ‘808s and Heartbreak’ era Kanye winding about his flawless delivery.
