Just want you to know that you and Dot are in my prayers. I hate that I can't donate more right now, but if I could, I would. It sucks when our pets are sick or hurt. But Dot is lucky that she has someone who cares so much about her. I wanted to tell you just how much I adore the LAOFT verse. I've re-read it so many times that, at this point, I've genuinely lost count. I know exactly what pieces to pick when I'm feeling lonely and sad because I know they'll make me feel lighter somehow, and which pieces to read when I'm stressed, or ones when I'm calm and happy and just want to get lost in another universe for a bit. Here’s my original headcanon with the accompanying oneshot
A lot of people liked how I started this adventure, so I thought you guys might like to see where I take it. I hope you enjoy!
And now! Your featured presentation:
- After the Great Yeet of October 2018, Remy considers Logan to be ‘chill,’ and he’ll pop over to Logan’s classroom whenever they both have a free hour. He bitches about every topic under the sun while Logan tries to get work done.
- Logan doesn’t necessarily mind this, but he does sometimes wish that Remy would find different colleagues to force his company upon.
- At some point, Logan makes the mistake of mentioning that he occasionally listens to the radio. Remy jumps on the opportunity to insist that Logan come with him on a journey into the euphoric hell-scape that is the late 70s to early 80s golden age of heavy metal (Remy’s words, not mine) (...wait.).
- Remy spends many hours sharing his love of the genre with Logan and condescendingly teaching him about it, never once even considering that Logan might already be intimately familiar with heavy metal
I kept it short for mobile users. The rest is under the cut.
Welcome to under the cut:
- Logan grew up listening to the record collection he inherited from his biological father, majored in musical performance (in addition to his Education degree), and played drums in a rock band in his youth (with Patton on electric guitar and Roman on vocals, naturally).
- Of course, Logan could share these tidbits about himself with Remy at any time, but Remy hardly lets Logan get a word in edgewise. And he seems so excited about the prospect of bringing a novice into the world of heavy metal that Logan doesn’t have the heart to bring any of it up.
- Plus, it’s funny. And it seems like harmless revenge to take on Remy for antagonizing him the first couple of years of his teaching career.
- Virgil often spends his lunch hour in Logan’s room, so he observes these doubly one-sided conversations.
- Soon, Logan starts testing the limits of Remy’s obliviousness.
“I thought ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ was originally released as a single?” he corrects politely.
“‘Chemical Exposure’ is faster than ‘Whip and Chain’ by about 30 BPM.” He taps his knuckle on his desk, double checking.
“Actually, Dave Holland wasn’t the drummer of Judas Priest until 1979. ‘Stained Glass’ was released with Les Binks.” His computer is asleep and his phone is nowhere to be seen, but Remy still accuses him of facetiously googling the obscure facts.
etc.
- Remy remains oblivious. But Virgil notices what Logan’s doing, and he’s both amused and confused. Logan eventually fills him in on what’s going on. From there on out, Virgil has to muffle his laughter.
- Remy’s going to be so pissed when he finally realizes.
- Remy is prone to migraines due to a childhood injury. The migraines are brought on by bright lights. That’s why he wears sunglasses all the time. Whenever he can, he’ll turn off the lights in a room. He often won’t give any warning, which gets on Logan’s nerves (the lack of warning, not the lights themselves).
- Naturally, this means that Remy goes out of his way to be even more obnoxious about unannounced blackouts. And when Logan complains, he simply looks over his glasses and smiles.
- To a much lesser degree, he’s also sensitive to loud sounds. His love of heavy metal is basically him telling Fate to go screw herself
And that’s the end of the relatively tame stuff.
Other things, listed in decreasing order of relevance to my original post. (I’m kind of proud of how weird it gets):
- All four Sides were taught by the same music teacher at different points. The teacher’s is named Ms. Picani.
- Logan and Virgil are long-lost cousins, and they didn’t find out until a few weeks after the Great Yeet
- Logan and Patton dated in high school.
- Logan and Roman are stepbrothers.
- Logan, Patton, and Roman were in marching band together
- Currently, Patton and Roman are ghosts.
- Only Logan can see them
- Later, Virgil will be struck by lightning and then he’ll be able to see them
- Contemporaneous with that event, Roman will possess Remy for A Very Important Reason™, and then Remy will be able to see the ghosts too.
- They will then all embark on a Road Trip of DESTINY and go to the Sides’ hometown of Verside, West Virginia so they can confront their Tragic Pasts™. (Well, Remy doesn’t really have a tragic past at this point in my story development. He’s tagging along because there are ghosts. There’s no way he’s passing up on a front row (or passenger) seat to that shit.)
