Day 2 of official US visit. Day 2 was a scheduled travel day. Since Boston and New York are so close, the couple drove to the city instead of flying. On travel days, Amalia chooses to be much more casual than she is while she is working. Since they will be in the car for several hours, comfort is important. While driving, the couple reviewed their upcoming itinerary and familiarized themselves with the organizations they would be visiting with.
Official Visit to the US day 1. Fredrik and Amalia arrived in Boston the afternoon before. They spent the evening relaxing and resting for the long tour ahead of them. They will be visiting 9 cities in 13 days.
On their first full day, the couple visit Boston’s Brigham and Women’s hospital. This is the hospital where Amalia was born and the two spent the afternoon talking with nurses, doctors and new mothers in their maternity floor. As an added surprise Freya got to meet Dr. Sommers, the OBGYN that delivered her.
Prince Fredrik and Princess Amalia, Duke and Duchess of Hallharna announce their first official tour as representatives of His Royal Highness King Hakkon. The tour will take place in May, 2016 and will last 2 weeks. The cities that the couple will visit are as follows:
Day 1: Boston
Day 3: New York City
Day 4: Washington DC
Day 6: Richmond, Virginia
Day 7: Savannah, Georgia
Day 9: San Diego
Day 11: Northern California’s Redwood Forest
Day 12: Portland, Oregon
Day 14: Seattle, Washington
Specific engagements will be announced as the date gets closer. Princess Amalia is particularly excited to visit The United States as she was born in Boston and held dual citizenship until she married Prince Fredrik.
Upon Fredrik and Amalia’s engagement, King Hakkon commissioned a coat of arms to be designed for the couple to use. Together with the Royal King of Arms, the design was finalized before the wedding and was shown public ally for the first time the morning of their wedding.
The couple chose three virtues to guide them: loyalty, faith, and sacrifice. The two green knots symbolizes longevity and loyalty. The gold unicorn represents virtue. The purple in the crest stands for justice, the green for hope, and the gold represents generosity.
The couple’s shared motto is ‘loyalty above all else’
