I hate when there's a character I love and a character I hate but they have the same name and they're from different book series

Because what do you mean I hate Winter so much he makes me want to tear my hair out every time he yells at and threatens to physically harm the person he is so called in love with, but I actually love Winter so much because she's adorable and she sees the walls bleed because she refuses to manipulate people. Like excuse me.

And what do you mean they're both cousins to the queen? What do you mean they're both royalty? What do you mean both their fathers are dead? I mean, winter's mom is dead too, but winter's mom is not dead, just a bad mother.

How i imagine winter

I haven’t gotten into it on this blog, but I’ve been super into The Lunar Chronicles since September 2022. Anyway, below are my late night ramblings that nobody cares about on why Angel with a Shotgun is Jacin Clay’s song. I’m making this list at 1:45 in the morning while I’m supposed to be packing for a trip, so this isn’t gonna be neatly organized or coherent lol.

Spoilers below for Cress and Winter btw

Alright, so we’re properly introduced to Jacin during Cress. He’s made a couple cameos in Cinder iirc (at least one) but it’s during the third book we finally learn his name, personality etc. 

A crucial part of his character is of course, his Princess Winter, aka childhood best friend/crush. Typically around others he’s serious, sarcastic, cold. But with her it’s like….I mean look he keeps his face and mind blank around others as a place guard of Queen Levana’s would but whenever it comes to Winter it’s just….his face visibly changes ok this doesn’t make much sense now that I’m reading it but onwards.

Onto the analysis of Angel with a Shotgun and how it relates to Jacin Clay

““And they say before you start a war, you better know what you’re fighting for. Well baby you are all that I adore, if love is what you need a soldier I will be.” -He stays as a puppet of Levana so he could stay and protect Winter the best he can, he doesn’t want to leave her alone. He knows Levana despises Winter and would take any chance to hurt her/kill her (as shown when she inflicted her scars and when she gave her letumosis.) -”I’ll throw away my faith babe just to keep you safe, don’t you know you’re eveyrthing I have.” -He’s not loyal to Levana whatsoever (“I serve my princess, no one else.”)he’s loyal only to Princess Winter. He risked their lives and kills Ryu in order to fake her death and help her escape.  -”“Sometimes to win, you have to sin.” As I said above, betrayed Rampion crew and killed Ryu for Winter. 

-”“And I wanna live not just survive.”

He wants to be a fuckingh doctor ok he doesn’t wanna be a palace guard he wants to be a doctor. He wants to live. 

Anyway, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, I love Jacin Clay and this essay isn’t structured properly but I stand by every word goodnight.

its a national tragedy we didn’t get a moment between winter and scarlet at the end of winter after she woke up from her coma. you’d think that after everything that happened and how their relationship was such a big part of the book that they would have gotten a moment at the end. ik the book was already over 800 pages but give my girls another scene!! let scarlet tell winter how strong she is, how brave she is. let winter feel accepted, let her feel comfort. let my girls have a tender moment💔

i love how you can tell how far into a book i am by how dense?? my commentary is in terms of like how many comments i'm making over a given number of chapters. because when i'm first starting a book i'm good to interrupt my reading to taking a note down but once the stakes and tension start hitting i'll only note something down if it's significant enough

cinder and erland's relationship honestly reminds me of the relationship between buffy and giles. a teenage "chosen one" so to speak, who has the weight of the world on their shoulders and copes being sassy, and her long suffering but equally sassy mentor figure. i think that's why i love it so much

cress is literally so paparazzi by lady gaga. and also lovefool by the cardigans. also this is home by cavetown but specifically the bridge. ocean eyes by billie eilish (even tho i imagine thorne with brown eyes lol). a few penelope scott songs but you're not allowed to make fun of me for this. god this is probably gonna end up with me making a playlist. thankfully i'm too lazy to make playlists so my ears are safe from the onslaught of random mishmashed songs that remind me of cress (that said thinking of a song when i see a character or thinking of a character when i hear a song has gotta be the highest honour i can bestow to any character)

i remember reading meyer's pronounciation guide when i first started the series and jacin's was like "jay-sin - so the real pronounciation of jason" but i'm aussie and every jason i've known has been pronounced jay-sen, so i'm respectfully ignoring that. i doubt i'm pronouncing anyone's names right anyway LMAO like i have to mentally correct myself every time i read benoit as "beh-no-it" instead of "ben-wah" (if i'm STILL incorrect i apologise to french speakers). i've also been pronouncing wolf's actual name as "zay-ev" idk how right that is
