There she was. Sat on a railing, glass of peach tea in hand, looking out on a city that was surprisingly less shitty than she’d imagined it. A bit greener, a bit- a bit less spiteful and dedicated to locking her up in the tower and ruining her childhood... Uhm.

What has made you completely lose your chill?

Mind, most of these instances can be found in logs on Skype chats because I try to not go off on tumblr. It’s a public forum, after all, and I know my words are being seen by more than just my friends and I don’t want to offend anyone inadvertently. I get very frustrated over the various iterations of John’s portrayal in relatively recent media since Hellblazer has been kicked off Vertigo. I mean, to be fair, the last fifty issues of the Vertigo series were a mess too. Like I’m entirely convinced the reason why it was canceled was due to Peter Milligan’s atrocious treatment of him and other characters. Listen, this asshat brought Kit back for the sole purpose of having John tell her about how he had finally found the ability to love someone more than he’d ever loved her because they accepted the magic and messed up parts of his life which -- Is so messed up I can’t even express. But yeah, I’m not real happy with the way DC has used him, like in JLD and Injustice or the way he’s been written in the new Hellblazer series. It just feels like a fundamental misunderstand of his character and it just makes me feel like I’m going crazy. Like, it’s not that hard to do research? I feel like a lot of these writers are just working with a basic outline of his personality, which hardly captures the whole of his characterization. Because it’s very easy to just say “John is a con man magician that sometimes does terrible things to get the job done or serve his purpose”, but there’s so much more to him that’s really important than just that single sentence.

I hate seeing other role-players treat my partners like shit. It completely pisses me off when I see another mun act really poorly to them, but I rarely get involved because like...usually it’s just shitty RP etiquette or fandom drama. Like for example going off about shipping or their character in the tags, so you know, it’s not my business to go after the offending the party, but it’s still infuriating and you better believe we’re venting among each other on Skype. 

Am I about to reiterate how much I hate character bashing? Yep. I am. It really pisses me off, especially within the realm of shipping like, stop comparing ships as in one being better than the other or one character being a better partner than the other, like that’s so isolating. Say you don’t like a certain ship, fine, but don’t draw stark comparisons or use it as an excuse to bring a particular character down. That’s just so unbelievably shitty and immature. I’d been part of shipping wars when I was younger and I regret how awful I was to complete strangers just because they shipped something that I didn’t like. Worse still being praised because I stood up for the popular ship. Awful, awful. I suppose in saying this, it could be why I’m very skittish now to use the term OTP even though it’s usage has become lax in fandom slang. Like it’s funny to me that it seems that people have forgotten that it’s shorthand for “one true pairing”. Now everyone has multiple OTPs and the old school part of me is laughing like how can you have multiple OTPs hahaha, oh you guys. But yeah, I think for me in remembering how OTP used to be much more stark and divisive, I’m more hesitant to use it unless there really is only one ship that I really like in a fandom. Even then...idek.
