Please!!!! tell me about laf dressing up as a women to come to the U.S.

AHHH YAYAYAY I GET TO TELL THIS STORY!!! 

Okay, so, Lafayette was a young, idealistic French aristocrat who wanted to fight in the American Revolution because he so strongly believed in the idea of liberty. Now this didn’t go over too well with the king of France, as you might imagine, who was not SUPER excited about the idea of liberty, and was especially not enthused that this young nobleman (who was married to one of the king’s relatives, I might add) wanted to go aid that cause. PLUS France and England were currently at peace, and if Laf, such a high ranking, wealthy French officer, went to America to fight with the rebels, that would NOT BE GOOD for that peace the two countries were sharing atm. 

So Lafayette was like “okay, gotta go gotta get the job done, gotta do this in secret, say goodbye to my daughters” so he fricking BOUGHT HIS OWN BOAT and got it all ready to set sail. Then the king caught whiff of his plans and wanted him arrested to prevent him from going and potentially messing up Lots of Things between France and England. Laf’s wealthy realitves and friends even wrote to him and were like “give it up, bud, this is SILLY AND RECKLESS” but his wife was like “Laf, babe, YOU GOT THIS GO GO GO” (she wins Wife of the Year award, amiright?)

Now most people probs would have given up there–– wanted by the king, told not to go by the king, told by your relatives and friends that your plans are incredibly foolish, BUT NOT OUR FAVORITE FIGHTING FRENCHMAN. Lafayette is like “screw u King Louis XVI imma go anyway” and DRESSED UP AS A WOMAN (a maid, I believe) to get on that fricking boat!!! And he did it!!! He got on that boat and made it to America! 

So, you guys, let this be our inspiring story of the day. Even if the king of your country wants you arrested, YOU CAN STILL FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS and become one of another country’s most beloved historical figures of all time!
