Marvel Masterworks Fantastic Four vs The Fantastic Four Annual #2
Side by Side, Part 1
Side by Side, Part 2
Side by Side, Part 3 - Conclusion
Continuing where I last left off, as I compared the original to the restoration, there are times where the recoloring doesn't match the original (aside from the acid-bright primary colors). In the above example is some recoloring where a color was omitted in Doom’s armor, perhaps it was the intent to increase contrast? Now that I’ve noticed it, I can’t unsee it!
Here, there are some definite registration issues going on, but notice there's more detail in this typical Kirby chromed device 👀 that Doom is tinkering with.
Another example: notice the slight differences in the facial expressions.
An iconic panel of Doctor Doom.
Here, Sue Storm is pulling a fast one on Doctor Doom by turning him invisible. I find that the original media lends itself better to how Sue’s invisibility is illustrated.
Conclusion
I'm sure my opinion is obvious, but I prefer the original colors and not the digitally "restored" colors. Something is lost in translation when you take away the halftones, Ben Day dots, and the fine nuances in the black that come with the printing method. One of the things that made Kirby so great is he really knew how to work with the limitations of the medium. The bold, expressive lines. The limited color palette used for maximum impact and expression. And some of that expressiveness is lost, dropped out, in the archival books.
I consider myself fortunate to be able to own some of these early comics. These days, some only have access to the digital versions of these comics, and may have formed opinions based on that. Which is a shame.
I don't do it often anymore, but I used to painstakingly do hires scans of original panels, do some minor enhancements but not alter anything if I could help it. Life came along and then was overwhelming, and work, and I stopped posting. To this day, stuff I posted back in 2012 and earlier, is still being reblogged, some of it in the hundreds (thousands?!). That means more people are exposed to what the comics are supposed to look like. And that's a good thing. I'm happy that I'm able to share these things with you. ❤️

Best T-Shirt Printing Methods Explained for Beginners.
If you're new to custom apparel, understanding the different T-shirt printing methods can help you choose the right option for your project. Whether you're starting a clothing brand, printing promotional T-shirts, or ordering custom designs for an event, each printing technique offers unique advantages. This guide explains the most popular T-shirt printing methods, their benefits, and when to use them.
Why Choosing the Right Printing Method Matters
The printing method you select affects the final product's appearance, durability, cost, and comfort. Factors such as fabric type, design complexity, order quantity, and budget should all be considered before placing an order.
1. Screen Printing
Screen printing is one of the oldest and most widely used T-shirt printing techniques. Ink is pressed through a mesh screen onto the fabric, creating bold and long-lasting prints.
Best for:
Bulk orders
Corporate uniforms
Promotional merchandise
Sports team apparel
Advantages:
Highly durable prints
Vibrant and consistent colors
Cost-effective for large quantities
Limitations:
Less economical for small orders
Setup costs are higher for multi-color designs
2. Direct-to-Film (DTF) Printing
DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing is a modern method where designs are printed onto a special film and then transferred to the garment using heat. It works well on cotton, polyester, and blended fabrics.
Best for:
Custom clothing brands
Small and medium-sized orders
Multi-color designs
Advantages:
Excellent color accuracy
Works on various fabric types
Suitable for detailed artwork
No minimum order requirement
3. Direct-to-Garment (DTG) Printing
DTG printing uses specialized inkjet technology to print directly onto the fabric. It produces high-resolution images and soft-feel prints, making it ideal for artistic or photographic designs.
Best for:
One-off custom T-shirts
Detailed illustrations
Online print-on-demand businesses
Advantages:
Unlimited color options
Sharp image quality
Perfect for complex designs
Limitations:
Slower for large production runs
Performs best on 100% cotton garments
4. Heat Transfer Printing
Heat transfer printing involves printing a design onto transfer paper or vinyl and applying it to the T-shirt using a heat press. It's a simple and affordable option for beginners.
Best for:
Personalized gifts
Small businesses
Sample products
Event T-shirts
Advantages:
Low startup cost
Fast production
Suitable for short runs
How to Choose the Best T-Shirt Printing Method
Selecting the right printing technique depends on your specific needs:
Bulk orders: Screen Printing
Small custom orders: DTF or DTG Printing
Photo-quality artwork: DTG Printing
Sportswear and polyester fabrics: DTF Printing
Personalized gifts: Heat Transfer Printing
Matching the printing method to your project helps ensure better quality and value.
Final Thoughts
There is no single "best" T-shirt printing method for every project. Screen printing remains the top choice for bulk production, while DTF printing offers excellent flexibility across different fabrics. DTG printing is ideal for detailed artwork, and heat transfer printing provides an affordable solution for small batches and personalized designs.
Before placing an order, consider your budget, fabric type, design complexity, and quantity. Choosing the right printing method will result in vibrant prints, longer-lasting garments, and a better overall customer experience.
