“Huit congédiements au pénitencier,” L’Illustration Nouvelle. April 11, 1939. Page 03.
“Penitentiary Health Officer Has Resigned; Other Changes Likely,” Vancouver Sun. December 29, 1920. Page 02. ---- NEW WESTMINSTER, Dec. 28. - The resignation of Dr. W. A. de Wolf Smith as health officer of the B.C. Penitentiary is announced today. It will take effect on Friday.
His successor is yet to be appointed. This is one of many changes in the personnel of the penitentiary which are likely to take place in a short time. Warden J. C. Brown is expected to be superannuated in a very short time while a new assistant warden to fill the shoes of Deputy Warden Carrol, recently resigned, is yet to be named. Several of the staff who have put in sufficient service to allow superannuation, will also be relieved of duty.
It is understood that a returned soldier who sustained severe wounds while overseas will be brought from Victoria to fill the position of Warden.
