Description

This is an allegory of the Soul, imprisoned in its mortal shell of the body, awaiting the release of death, to enable it to move to the light and immortality. This echoes the painter's Spiritualist belief that the body is merely an earthly shell, an encumbrance, which the spirit longs to cast off in death, to move into the sun of the spirit-spheres.

Prison Window

Here is another find from the Palo Alto High School Flea Market.  Just before Kim and I were heading back to the car I noticed this beautiful old window frame out of the corner of my eye.  

Thinking that this was going to cost a fortune (BTW a fortune in flea market terms is anything over 50 bucks). I asked the man, and he wanted 35.  Naturally I offered less ($25), and he said he would do 30.  I was sold!

Again, I was left wondering what to do with it.  On the way back to the car Kim and I had the idea of turning it into a mirror.  This was the same day that we picked up the washboard, so we were obviously in the mirror mindset.  

I have been stripping all of the products that I have purchased down to its original wood.  For this one I wanted to give it a distressed look.  The white paint that is on it was too good to loose, and the distressed look is very popular now.  On Sunday I started with the sander, and got the look below.

Now that I had the look it was time to install the mirror.  This was easier now that Kim had installed the mirror on the washboard.  About 35 minutes later we had a brand new mirror ready for hanging.
