"The darkroom at Lorton was a place you could be alone without being lonely," said Alonzo Davis, a former incarcerated individual at Lorton Maximum Security Prison. Alonzo was speaking of the unique existence of a darkroom for a rehabilitative photography program within the prison, which helped give some of the men the tranquil space they needed to reflect. Even though this clip is short, show I struggle that black women have when they have been assault or violated by a black man. There is a fight that starts in the mind of a black woman to think about herself and the violence towards her and think about how the justice and prison institution do to people of color. This makes me reflect on Katherine McKittrick’s work, Stay Human, and how there are limited black women geographies are to be safe.
