I know some people kind of scoff at Dean saying that being in the government facility in First Blood was worse than Hell but I just want people to be aware that solitary confinement has been shown in studies to cause extreme negative, lasting psychological effects and even physical problems and higher risk of death in some cases. It can actually change the way your brain works and can cause things like memory and concentration problems, anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations and a lot more. Physically it can cause things like dizziness, headaches, problems with muscles and joints and more. A lot of experts say it's comparable to physical torture and it's of course worse for people with pre-existing mental health issues and disabilities. It's a horrible, horrible, ineffective practice that should not be legal and I don't think it's a stretch for Dean to be extremely negatively affected by it. They were in that facility for 6 weeks, and already 15 days in solitary is considered extreme. This isn't a callout or anything, it's just an issue I don't think a lot of people know about and I've seen people mention that episode so I just thought I'd share some information on it. Anyway prisons suck and they do not work.

Hello friends. All I have been able to think about the past few days is the situation in America today.
Take it from a historian: the American justice and penal system is broken. It is designed explicitly to harm and control black communities. I mean that extremely literally. Most police forces in the US today sprung up in the postbellum period to enforce the new Black Codes, to enforce the convict leasing system (which was essentially just a continuation of slavery given a veneer of legitimacy), and to enforce segregation.
The current prisons-for-profit system is almost an exact copy of the convict leasing system - black people are disproportionately incarcerated for misdemeanours, then once inside are given jobs that turn a profit for the prison. Then once the prisoner/victim is released, it is made all but impossible for them to get a legitimate job and take back their place in society, meaning many end up falling into crime to make ends meet. And then end up back in prison, turning a profit for their captors once more.
The police are militarised overseers enforcing racist laws which are immoral, unethical and unjust. Regardless of whether they are ignorant of their complicity, that is what they are.
Every month I donate a portion of my Patreon proceeds to BlackLivesMatter, and although I don’t make a lot from it right now, this month I will be donating all of the proceeds from my Patreon to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. If you have the means, I suggest you do the same.
i dont like that they test on prisoners tho. thats really gross even if its the death penalty prisoners.
