I come with a bit of somber news from the state of IL - the hearing found on the HB 5511 Bill passed with more people voting Yay than Nay this time 😭!

I feel like I am doing all I can to fight these bills and sign witness slips/petitions, I even messaged my state senator ( who was part of the vote).

I will still continue to fight these bills and many like it, but I am also tired, frustrated and sad. It feel like sometimes all this work was for nothing! I was wondering how you stay so positive despite everything?

I am also scared of losing tumblr as I build friends and community here 💜! I am also scared I lose my job that requires internet to do(remote for a mental health organization) - which I also feel like is not talked about enough(people could lose their occupations).

So HB 5511 has passed onto its 3rd reading in Senate today! May 28 2026! (No updates yet on dates ,but it is rumours they have to read/vote by May 31 2026!)

Here is how bills are passed in Illinois. Illinois has a few more hearings/votes until it becomes law :

So here is what's gonna happen:

- Senate 3rd Reading: The bill was placed on the Senate calendar for its 3rd Reading. This is the stage where the full Senate debates and votes on the bill.

- Senate Vote: The bill needs a simple majority (30 votes) in the Senate to pass.

- Return to the House (If amended): If the Senate amends or changes the bill, it must go back to the House for a concurrence vote. If the Senate passes it exactly as it left the House, this stage is skipped.

- Once it passes both chambers in identical form, it heads to the Governor's desk to be signed into law or vetoed.

This bill is gonna age to verify you on platforms, and it is unconstitutional in several ways!

I stay positive because I know that when we come together we can do anything :) 🫂⚔️❤️! I have seen so many people joining this fight against age verfication, and that will/had made a difference! Also, It might not still pass full Senate! Bills do not usually pass the Senate. In fact, the vast majority of bills introduced die in committee and never received a vote by the full chamber. Historically, in the US, about 84% of bills that successfully pass one chamber end up dying in the other! SO that is good news! This bill might die in the chamber or senate!

Trump attempts to bully Illinois Governor and Chicago Mayor

On Wednesday, Trump said the governor of Illinois and the mayor of Chicago should be jailed for refusing to support ICE’s brutal invasion of American cities. On the same day, Attorney General Pam Bondi said that Americans deemed to be members of “Antifa” would be dealt with using the “same approach” as Venezuelan boats allegedly smuggling drugs into America. For context, the occupants of those boats have been killed by the US military without charges or trial, and without regard to the fact that the US law does not provide the death penalty for drug smuggling.

Objectively, the threats are depraved, lunatic, anti-democratic, and possibly criminal. The calls by the president and the Attorney General to jail and/or kill public officials and citizens perceived to be political opponents are unprecedented, not only in the history of the United States but in the modern history of nearly every Western democracy.

Standing alone, those threats justify the invocation of the 25th Amendment on the grounds that the president is mentally incapable of performing the duties of the presidency. And if he is mentally capable of doing so, he should be impeached, convicted, and removed from office.

And yet, on Wednesday, the front pages of newspapers and landing pages of online media outlets do not mention the threats.

Although it is a waste of our collective time and attention to dwell on the media's utter failure to hold Trump to account in the same way it has for every previous president, it is worth mentioning for several reasons.

First, one reason this moment is so difficult is that the media normalizes dictatorial behavior by Trump by giving him a “free pass” when he says things like “governors should be in jail” and we will use the “same approach” to deal with political opponents as we did with alleged drug smugglers killed by the military.

A recent example is Tim Miller’s (The Bulwark) podcast interview of Jake Tapper. Tapper wrote a book that savaged Joe Biden for allegedly covering up mental decline, but Tapper says that “Trump is just being Trump” when he makes unhinged, dictatorial, depraved statements.

Tapper did his best to gloss over the obvious double standard being applied to Trump and Biden. Tapper said

[Trump] says things that are bizarre. He rambles. When he says things that are lies or when he like you know does his wild I guess he calls it a “weave” . . . that’s a personality issue and it’s one that has been apparent from the very beginning and like obviously it’s different now than it was in 2015, because he’s you know much older but that’s a different wing of the hospital than Joe Biden . . . .

So, when Trump says “jail the governor of Illinois” and “kill members of Antifa,” that is just a “personality issue” in Jake Tapper’s opinion (and most of the media), for which Trump gets a pass.

By ignoring Trump’s depraved statements, the media not only normalizes Trump’s threats, but it also makes our job of defending democracy much more difficult!

The tens of millions of Americans who have only a casual acquaintance with the daily news cycle are unaware of the threats that Trump made on Wednesday—because Jake Tapper thinks “that’s just Trump’s personality,” which explains why CNN has no mention of Trump’s threats to elected officials and American citizens in its online coverage of Trump on Wednesday. (I don’t watch CNN, so I have no idea what its anchors said on air.)

Here’s my point: When under-informed Americans see grassroots volunteers standing on street corners and overpasses asking them to protest on October 18, they may not understand why we are raising the alarm. Indeed, they may wrongly believe that we are “crackpots” who are making a big deal over “politics.” That is why the lazy, disinterested reporting by much of the media makes defending democracy more difficult—by a lot!

Now, to the substance. Trump called for the jailing of Governor Pritzker, who responded, “Here I am. Come get me!” See HuffPo, JB Pritzker Dares Trump: ‘Come And Get Me’.

Governor Pritzker’s response is spot on. The way to deal with Trump’s increasingly unhinged threats is with mockery and bravado. The First Law of Resisting Bullies is Never Back Down. Governor Gavin Newsom has used the same strategy to good effect. We should, too! We cannot allow Trump to cow us into submission with illegal threats and schoolyard bullying.

On the other hand, the unchecked brutality of ICE and CBP in harassing American citizens and immigrants is real. And it is having the opposite of the intended effect. Americans are protesting in increasing numbers and registering their disapproval in special elections and polls.

Those facts do not make the quasi-militarization of some areas of Chicago and Portland any less outrageous, but they do point the way forward: Trump’s enablers can read polls and election results. Trump may not care, but his enablers and corporate overlords do. Or they will care when tens of millions of Americans take to the streets in peaceful protests, economic boycotts, shutdowns, and walkouts.

In the face of Trump’s increasingly depraved, lunatic, anti-democratic, and possibly criminal threats, we must lean in with greater confidence and commitment. The First Law of Resisting Bullies is “Never Back Down.” Trump’s threats betray fear and disbelief that he has been unable to intimidate Americans into obeisance. Stay strong, everyone! The resistance is working!

Max Beckmann, The Catfish, 1929 Max Beckmann, The Little Fish, 1933 I'm fascinated by these two paintings and how Beckmann kept the general setting and figure placement and subject matter, yet altered the mood and expressions and meaning. The fish--within art in general, but for Beckmann particularly--was a symbol for the phallus and male fertility, and with that in context, I'm wondering how the artist's personal life and sexual relationships were changing from his boldly wriggling extroverted catfisheries of 1929 to his polite and less-monstrous approaches of 1933.
