Last year British author Louise Candlish made her American debut with “Our House,” a domestic thriller about a woman whose life spirals after she finds strangers taking over her London townhouse. Now Candlish returns with a mordant tale called “Those People.” She could well have titled it “Our Houses” since the plot finds several homes and their owners threatened by obnoxious newcomers. sometimes as a straight person I get annoyed at non-straight people taking the piss out of straight people, especially as I am an advocate for equal rights and respect for all peoples, but then I think about how non-straight people must feel about stereotypical tropes of non-straight people used in mainstream media.

So this came up in my facebook newsfeed, a Belgian news paper posted this. The reactions on it are shocking to me. They range from “Bullshit” to “The questions determinate the result.” And okay, that’s just your opinion. But we do have a problem here. The questions were about privilege, and of course there’s a problem there. I’m a 18 year old wealthy white bisexual girl, so my privilege is pretty high and I’m aware of that. You should always be aware of the fact that you do indeed have privilege, or absolutely not. If you deny the fact that something like privilege exists, you are either very naive or just stupid. And there, we might have a problem
