Yanno it kinda bothers me when people say Misty isn't likable compared to Serena or May and even Dawn and is always considered a least favorite amount the anime only watchers of the fandom.

I feel ya but, honestly, I’ve heard people talk smack about a lot of characters. Serena faces the same discrimination (whether it’s by people who like the other female protags more or people who don’t like her anime version compared to her game/Adventures manga version). Ash has been compared (badly) to Red (any incarnation) since the start of time.

Honestly, not liking/bashing (two different things) a character comes down to two simple justifications: shipping (as in, they get in the way of your ship so they’re trash, they’ve always been trash, they’ll always be trash) and legitimate distaste towards that character’s personality traits. The first of those two is most likely the culprit 85% or so of the time, which automatically makes a debate with the person moot because they’re using dislike of the character as a copout for being unable to admit they just don’t want them to exist since they get in the way of their OTP. The second one presents an opportunity to debate so, as long as you’re respectful and understanding of the canon and fandom history, have at it.

As far as Misty being “a least favorite”, if we’re being real (which does sadden me a bit), that might not necessarily be untrue, but that isn’t due to her character. It’s due to how much time has passed since she was in any long-term on-screen focus compared to the other female protags. However, I gotta say, the SM anime special where she returned for two episodes seemed to gain meteoric praise, considering.

(Btw, was Iris not part of the discussion at all? I guess that means Misty isn’t at the complete bottom of the list.)
