The fact that we get so much world building on slavery in The Remarried Empress detailing an unfair oppressive system which punishes children for the sins of their parents makes you think that it’s setting things up so that the good Empress Navier can learn a lesson and better things for the kingdom and people she’s stated to care so much about. But no. You see, Navier is PERFECT and this would require the author to actually write her beyond a few sad and badass moments.

Maybe The Remarried Empress would be a better, more compelling story if the author didn’t hate Rashta’s guts so much. When I say that the amount of Rashta bashing in the text ruins it, I’m being 100% serious because it’s SO DULL.

Would it kill the author to make Rashta a bit smarter? She’s so dumb and tactless that she couldn’t be a threat if she tried, she’s just a fool waiting to be jeered at by the audience for her stupidly evil deeds. That way, her existence never challenges or threatens Navier, the shining perfect Queen who’s the embodiment of nobility and always morally correct. The author doesn’t want you to question why Rashta is depicted as the most spoiled and entitled character in the main cast (even though she’s surrounded by royalty, the people most likely to be spoiled and entitled) despite being the only commoner.

Rashta is a victim in so many ways, but the narrative obscured that by making her devoid of nuance and depth and just making her the stupid slutty mistress who dies at the end of the story.

This WEBTOON and its fan base makes me lose so much hope for humanity. There are really people out there who think getting cheated on is worse than being enslaved and whenever someone points that out some imperialist simp will inevitably jump in like “bUt RaSHta dId X, Y, and Z” and it’s like yes, because the author CHOSE to villainize her. How bad is your reading comprehension??

This story could’ve been re written from Rashta’s POV and it would’ve been so different. Like people in the comments actually mock Rashta for being uneducated (she was a slave!) and paranoid (you would be too if you used to be a slave!)

Someone with a degree in comparative literature needs to study this WEBTOON’s success and its fan base.

Webtoon fans can be so willfully obtuse, misogynistic, rape-apologist motherfuckers like URGGGGH I feel like I'm in the twilight zone! And the worst part is, I'm pretty sure most of (all) readers are young kids/women

Like, we really need to make Rashta black to see what the problem here is, do we? And even then, it would not suprise me if some of those fans consumed that without blinking an eye. Like I'm actually convinced at this point that certain Remarried Empress fans would read plantation romances and think that it's an appropriate way to tell romance drama.

If the author is Korean, what point does a different cultural impact/history stop becoming an excuse? It'll be like if an American made a romance with the antagonist that's an obvious parallel to comfort women and proceeded to glorify/demonize the standing and character respectively; calling the comfort woman a bitch, who was never innocent, who deserves to die because she's a homewreker that broke the main japanese couple.

If the author is not Korean and is European, American, or can't hide behind the excuse that they just don't teach that at school because they never participated in the Atlantic slave trade and what slavery they did have there was completely different-- girl, what are you doing? What the fuck is wrong with you? Did you really need a lesson on why you shouldn't throw in slavery and, in extension, rape (or other heavy topics) willy-nilly without thinking of the consequences it would have on the intended narrative? Lack of critical thinking, i swear

lol but for real tho, i get the whole rashta was a slave and just trying to better her circumstances and the real villain was the ex husband (can't wait until your whole life falls apart 🥰) all along, but ill still absolutely side eye her for her lack of common sense. what woman would want to play nice with her husband's mistress? but everything else was definitely his fault.

yeah see. i get you. i feel you. but i also feel rashta lacks common sense the same way aegon is a rapist. narratively forced. narrative wants you to root for rhaenyra, narrative wants you to root for navier. in both stories, aegon and rashta are viscerally hated by their writer.

its just so interesting rashtas admiration/view of royalty/fancy things, like its really going that rashts "in a fairytale", and now shes in this insane world and shes climbing up the ladder of high society pretty well, and this moment kinda reminds me of the moment with her wedding dress when she gets married, and how all the nobles make fun of her for being dressed up too fancily but all the commoneors think her dress is gorgeous and wonderful, and i think there was a specific line about when she was telling people she was born noble, she said something like," i may have been born noble but i was raised with commoners and am commoner at heart" and i think that rings so true her
