reminder that this blog is vehemently pro self-dx
So I saw some stuff that made me sad so I wanna day something
I’m autistic and I’m self diagnosed. My parents won’t take me to a doctor about it. I did my research on the subject and came to a conclusion and I feel so much better now. I know now that there’s other people who have the same struggles as me, I know now that there’s nothing wrong with me and I know that my low empathy doesn’t inherently make me a bad person. I know so much about the things that have been beating me down for years.
Some people may take self diagnosis too far but some people need it and you can spread awareness of self misdiagnosis and the damage it can do without being completely against it and without acting shitty to anybody who self diagnoses.
Anti self-dxers: you're hurting yourself and the community you belong in!!! get professional help!!! bc that's a thing absolutely everyone can do!!
Me, swatting at them with my broom: get out of my house
because what’s so wrong with self-dx? if you know yourself and are able to explore to understand who you are and how you behave even without a professional diagnosis that not everyone has access to, that’s brilliant!! people should be able to talk about what makes sense to them and what conclusions they can make as a result. you know yourself better than anyone, and even though professional diagnoses may help (keyword: may) - this isn’t a dig at professionals - isn’t that the truth?
To the anon : I'm pro-diagnosed myself, and, sincerly ? Have you seen how much those tests costs ? Hadn't my mother paid mine, i'd never have been. Self-diagnosis is the way to go to a lot of people. Also, who wants to be "a special snoflake autist" when you know you can get beaten for it ? Seriously, dude. Moreover, myself, contrary to you anon-dude, have met her in person. She is, more than definetly, autist. I've seen her, we talked, shared a lot of life experience, coping methods... 1/2
I don’t think you have the rights to judge non-diagnosed people, or even judge people that you don’t know. People that you’ve never seen. You want the professional opinion of someone that has been diagnosed early ? She is. She is, and she says a lot of interesting things about us. She’s one of us. And the other self diagnosed ? They are, too. We all have our reasons to get or not diagnosed. It doesn’t mean self-diagnosed people aren’t part of our community : don’t be such an ableist. 2/2
Thank you for your message and your support. I hope I’ll get the pleasure to see you again. Will you be at the Japan Touch Haru this week-end c: ?
Heres a reminder that I completely support self-diagnosis.
Just a reminder that im a professionally diagnosed autistic who fully supports self diagnosis.
