#problematic parents

There is a positive light at the end of this, it's not just a post lamenting my father's beliefs, but I totally understand if you can't/don't want to read about it.

I just had an...interesting conversation with my father. He's generally pretty accepting in a "as long as you're not hurting anyone 👍" kind of way, but he has some hang ups that I definitely don't agree with. In one conversation he said:

"I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna try with those neopronouns. I'll call you they/them, hell, I'll call you it, but I'm not doing that whole thing"

"There's identities and then there's fetishes" (in regards to furries, neopronouns, labels like cupioromantic or omnisexual or neptunic (aka just labels that are very VERY specific and would require a lot of explanation irl to make sense)

"Queerplatonic relationships are just friendships. That's just a best friend! We don't need another word for that!"

And then this man proceeded to explain that he doesn't experience gender!

In light of all this, I just wanted to make a few statements of my own.

Neopronouns are ✨Sappho Approved ✅✨ TELL ME YOUR NEOPRONOUNS!!! Tell me how to use them!!! I'll use them all day long, you tell me what to call you, and I'll call you that all night long!!! (/not sexual, promise 🤣)

Your identity is not a fetish. Use whatever labels you want. Identify however you want. You are accepted, you are valid, you are loved 🫶

Queerplatonic relationships are ✨Sappho Approved✅✨ Rock that shit, my lovely! Fuck everyone! Your platonic partner is yours! Call it what you will, that's between you and your lovely partner!!!

The point is, do what makes you happy. Be you. As long as it isn't hurting anyone (unless you have consent, you freaks 😝), live out your lives however you wish. Auntie Sappho's got your back, my lovelies 🫶❤️🫂

An Open Letter to my Mother

I wish you had accepted me when you stumbled on my conversation with a close friend where I came out to him. I wish you had just left it alone and pretended you didn’t see it so I could come out to you.

I wish you had accepted me so we could bond over my latest crush regardless of their gender. I wish you had accepted me so we could be even closer.

I wish you would’ve accepted me and my sexuality so I would’ve felt more comfortable to tell you my pains and woes. I wish our relationship hadn’t been destroyed so unnecessarily by rejection.

I wish I could’ve brought my girlfriends home to have dinner or watch a movie with the family. I wish you would’ve cheered me on in those relationships and supported me.

I wish you would’ve accepted me so when I was having an existential crisis about my gender I could have confided in you. I wish you had been accepting so we could’ve bonded through my transition process.

I wish we could’ve gone shopping together for man clothes, the first time I would’ve been genuinely excited to go clothes shopping with you, and that we could’ve found a good gender therapist together. I wish we could’ve gotten that testosterone prescription together and you would’ve helped me with my shots.

I wish you would’ve been there for me when I needed you most and I wish you would support me in becoming and accepting myself.

I wish you hadn’t hurt me, ostracized me, traumatized me. I wish we hadn’t grown apart. I wish that we could go back in time and do this all over again, but happy this time.

I wish you accepted me for who I am and who I am becoming.

I wish that can still happen.

Spring cleaning-

It’s okay to get rid of people who aren’t good for you. I’ll say it again for the people in the back.

Even if that person is the one person who is supposed to always be there for you, always supposed to have your back. If the relationship is problematic, end it.

That is so much easier said than done and I can’t wait to look back one day and see that it was worth it.
