Tail // - My last step before I weld out a frame is to tack the seat stays in place. I hold off tacking the seat stays in the jig because if there’s any adjustments to be made, it gets 10x harder once the seat stays are in place. So I’ll go through a series of checks and add additional tacks and/or weld beads to pull the frame into alignment. Once finished, the seat stays are cut to length, Bend start points noted, bends made, mitered dialed in and then final clean up before tacking the rest of the assembly. Only then is it a bicycle. Up to that point it’s still just a bunch of tubes. - Here’s Brian’s Marauder 1x12 getting the final seat stat treatment. Ted’s Marauder // - Little peek inside the process here. As I begin the weldout of a frame, what I’ll do is make a light pass between the acute connection of the ST and DT. Then I’ll create a pass that creates a “T” at the base to build up weldment and ahelp prevent key-holing the ears of the down tube overlap. Then pull a second pass out in that same area to put plenty of material between seat tube and down tube and also eliminate any under cuts due to the thinness of the material connection. Once that’s completed, I start on the drive side and work my way all the way around the seat tube and downtube and I’ll walk right over those landings I’ve created previously. - 2nd pics shows the “T” on the drive side. 3rd pic shows a weld wrap the weld around the seat tube which was part of an initial light pass to pull the seat tube a bit to the drive side as it was leaning a bit to the other side. I’ll walk right over that on my way around both tubes. Heat, filler and speed are you friends. - #processmatters https://www.instagram.com/p/CLDO0jKliNn/?igshid=98wpruvz38qz

From the series “The Gardeners Daughter - autobiographical musings” no.18 - “Blue Sky” Today my collage makes me think of reading books, lying in the grass when I was a girl and planing to become a writer or a biologist. I started out with my fathers diary when he trained to become a gardener in 1946 and enjoy the autobiographical fragments appearing in my collages. I firmly believe that collaging has a fabulous power to allow half forgotten stories to surface. #processmatters . From the series “The Gardeners Daughter - autobiographical musings” no.17 - “Bulawayo Junction” Today my collage makes me think of reading Karl Mays books when I was a girl and dreaming to travel to faraway countries. I am enjoying for all these fragments and selfportraits showing up in my work, inviting me to reflection. #processmatters . Refinement // - This next step takes time. Honing in on the overall shape, taper and tip profile of a steel non-drive chainstay. Making the tip tapered square really helps prevent distortion when welding this flat mount tabs in place. Getting closer. - #processmatters https://www.instagram.com/p/B5tYm9jl2gu/?igshid=141r199xc7euh
