Hi! Thank you for pointing me towards the writeblr community challenge! My question is... Are you procrastinating a lot? How do you make yourself stop and get to work? /@catharticallysarcastic/
Haha thanks for the question @catharticallysarcastic!
Procrastination has always been a big topic and I have to work quite purposefully against it to avoid it.
My main strategies are checklists, awards, timing and breaks.
I make lists of to do things for everything. I have books to read, homeworks to do, household tasks, people to message, writing books vs biographies vs fiction research to read etc.
Awards for checklists. I break down each task into little steps that I can check off and then I give myself awards. Like after reading 10 pages of homework text (today it’s for example Discource analysis) I allow myself 5 minutes on tumblr. Or get a coffee. Or read something really fun I have been waiting for all day.
Timing and checking time is also great - I can see my progress and if it’s too slow it gives me motivation to get quicker.
Honestly my life changed a lot after I read this psychological article that crossing things off from the to-do list feels like finding a lost thing for the brain and releases dopamin and not checking them off feels like losing something precious.
Hope that helps! What do you for against procrastination?
