he LITERALLY turns chas’ face toward him to – get even closer to his mouth? why??? not necessary – and honestly the cameraman knows it’s not allowed and that’s why he uh does that quick shift to the right so you can’t quite catch chas’s reaction

“She’s not,” she cuts in. “I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Time travel? Magic amulets? You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Both Lucifer and Dan are quiet and the Detective looks between the two of them, a rapidly growing expression of disbelief on her face.

“Oh, Dan. Not you, too.”

“What?” he objects, voice high. “What else could it be?”

She makes a scornful sound in her throat at them, throwing her hands in the air. “I don’t know! A clone?”

“Oh, cause that’s less crazy,” Dan retorts.

"Series now complete" I'm calling your bluff, AJ. Calling it right now.

It feels more done than it did when I pushed the first one in the sequence to 6 installments and only succeeded in creating more emotional subplots that required expanding. The erroneous estimation, if any, was low-balling the word-count that those subplots needed for resolution. I’m laughably bad at defining parameters when I’m brand-new at writing a particular set of characters and their universe; it’s as if they’re perpetually going, hey, look, here’s how many words we really need to show you what we can do. Writing is a self-perpetuating mess, a thrilling one, so I do my best to redraw boundaries as I go. The fact that it’s happening to a rampant extent in the case of DGHDA is…ironic.

@procrastinatingbookworm, I still think this is going to be a single-ficverse fandom for me.  By now, 2-3 weeks in, unrelated one-shots would have started to crop up all over the place (cf. Good Omens, Gotham, Hot Fuzz, or any number of my past/ongoing fandoms).  That hasn’t happened.  Meant to Be Here is trying exceptionally hard to settle somewhere that I’ll be happy with it (which means a place I’ll feel fine leaving the characters alone).
