“What would you like to do for Cailean’s birthday, Eli?”
A careful trail of rose petals have been laid from the hallway, through the bedroom to the bathroom. While the door appears closed from a distance it is clear upon closer inspection that a crack remains open, inviting the one following the trail inside.
“Eli, let’s take Cailean out to see the fireworks tonight.”
Kissed.
It was their day without their son, time that they were eager to spend with each other. No matter how much any parent loved their child, it was always nice to have time to spend exclusively on each other. Eli and Eleria were no different.
They ended up going to one of the numerous art fairs and then stopping to listen at a concert being held in one of the parks they were walking past. For the time being it was like it had been before Cailean had been born, when it was only them.
Eventually they returned to their home, Eleria unlocking the door and stepping inside. She heard Eli close the door with a click just before a pair of strong arms wrapped around her, pulling her back in an embrace. Eleria smiled, leaning back against her husband.
She didn’t quite expect him to shift away from her. The day had turned warm, leaving Eleria to wear one of the shirts that left the majority of her back bare. Eli chose to take advantage of that. She gasped as his lips brushed the skin directly between her shoulder-blades, a shiver running down her spine.
"Hey Eli."
"I love you."
"You still owe me $50." She dimpled at him. "You crossed Boardwalk after all."
"We're out of cookies, but do you think Santa will settle for a salad?"
"Santa will likely have to if he already ate all of the cookies we had."
"Eli, that's enough sugar. Anymore and Cailean won't sleep tonight."
